One thing that doesn't help the sales of small electric outboard motors like the ones commonly used for a small boat, jon boat, tender or a dinghy - is the alleged horsepower rating. Anyone who has run a small gasoline outboard motor whether 2 stroke or 4 stroke, knows what kind of speed and power to expect from a low horsepower outboard engine.
But brands like Torqeedo, ePropulsion, Newport, Elco, Remigo and others all use a "horsepower equivalent" rating in their advertising and specifications.
What does it really mean and why are they allowed to say a horsepower when mathematically is doesn't add up?
I cover that topic in this YouTube video! - Video link in comments!
