2011 Chevrolet Equinox with 120,000 miles has an internal engine noise once warmed up and presents a pause from startup and 5seconds later when the cam phasers are adjusted to the desired cam angle by the ecu the noise will begin. We had to run two oil pressure reading. One on the block and one on the cylinder head to rule out a clogged or***ce between the cylinder head and block. Oil pressure was good and the cam phaser actuators as well as the cam phasers themselves are functioning exactly the way they are supposed to, with no variation between the desired cam angle and the actual cam angle themselves. So we dig deeper into the engine and found that the two timing chains are excessively sloppy as well as worn chain guides and weak timing chain hydraulic tensioners that work off of oil pressure. We are installing all new timing components, tensioners, guides, and sprockets. We cannot stress enough the importance of proper maintenance and changing your oil on time. Any conventional or semi-synthetic oil we recommend gets changed every 3,000 miles and full synthetics around 5,000 miles, no matter what. This engine would not have needed all of this work to fix everything that got worn and stretched. This Vehical has ruffly 130,000 miles and we can clearly make out the build up of some sludge as well as the extra wear on the internal timing components.
