A brief history lesson on Ronsonet Buick GMC will take us back to 1950 when Buick motor division came to Lake City to ask Mr. Tommy Stephens to open the way for Lake City to have a Buick franchise.
In 1956 Tommy Stephens built a state of the art car dealership on the outskirts of town to sell America's premium road car ... Buick. Mr. Stephens quickly built a reputation for reliable service, quality workmanship and dependability. Commitment to service for our customers and hard work seemed to go hand and hand with success in the early years.
In 1965 Martha Ann Stephens Ronsonet returned home from the University of Alabama with her husband, a Bear Bryant football player, Norbie Ronsonet to join Mr. Stephens in the automobile business. Mr. Stephens passed away in 1973 and hence Ronsonet Buick. Norbie carried on the philosophy that our customers are our friends and neighbors, who came back year after year because they knew he would do anything and everything to satisfy their automotive needs.
In 1981 Norbie Ronsonet Jr started working at the dealership after graduating from Florida State University. The age of technology was here and Ronsonet Buick became computerized and was growing as fast as Lake City itself.
Ronsonet Buick became Ronsonet Buick-GMC Truck in 1985 after the acquisition of Cotton Johnson Motors. The truck business was the hottest market in the country and with the quality GMC truck line the Ronsonets were still convinced that their commitment to complete customer satisfaction was their key to success.
In 1988 Martha Ann and Norbie's youngest son, Mitch, came into the family business and now operates what Lake City votes again and again is the best service department in Lake City.
In 2006 the Ronsonet's acquired the Pontiac franchise from Hopkins Motor Company and became Ronsonet Buick Pontiac GMC. Pontiac is a proven vehicle line with the reputation of being both sporty and practical. Pontiac also gave Ronsonet a wide range and selection of GM vehicles to offer our area.
2009 proved to be one of the biggest challenges not only for the Ronsonets, but for General Motors who filed for bankruptcy protection causing a tremendous negative trickledown effect to the nation's automobile industry.
During this era GM decided to drop the Pontiac brand but committed to make the Buick and GMC brands stronger than ever.
Ronsonet Buick GMC was voted the 2012 best new car dealer, best new truck dealer, best used truck dealer, best service department and home of the best car salesman by the Lake City Reporter and has received these awards several times since.
2016 started off with the construction of a new facility! The Ronsonets decided to invest in our local community and stay at the current location in order to better serve their loyal customer base. The idea of "We work where you work" is supported by some of the largest employers being located just a few minutes away from the dealership. Convenience and less traffic congestion is a win / win for everybody. And in March 2017, we moved into our new facility.
The Ronsonet Family of experienced employees are challenged every day with the fact that when future employees read about the history of Ronsonet Buick GMC , it will be their accomplishments that they will be reading about, that every person that is or ever has been connected with the dealership is collectively responsible for its past, present, and future success. We are proud of our "small town family atmosphere" way of doing business and will continue the tradition that was started 4 generations ago.
