Ram dropped the 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty for 2027 — but how big of a deal is that really?

The first thing to understand is what a powertrain warranty actually covered. It was mainly protecting the major mechanical components of the engine, transmission, and drivetrain — not the entire truck for 10 years.

And that matters because today’s trucks are loaded with technology.

Screens. Cameras. Sensors. Modules. Radar. Driver-assistance systems. Infotainment. Connectivity. Wiring everywhere.

These trucks are basically cell phones on steroids with wheels — except your phone gets to sit safely in your pocket or on your nightstand. Your truck gets heat, cold, rain, road salt, potholes, vibration, and years of exposure to the elements.

So the bigger question may not be, “Will the engine and transmission last 10 years?”

It may be:

Will the technology in the truck you’re buying today still be relevant, capable, and compatible with the world around you 10 years from now?

Because the engine and transmission may not be the reason you decide to move on.

The technology might be.

I took the Ram 1500 Tungsten out on the road to see what Hands-Free Active Driving Assist is really like when you actually use it.

Not on a spec sheet. Not sitting on the lot. Out on the highway.

How well does it keep the truck centered? How natural does it feel in traffic? And most importantly — is this a feature that’s actually worth having, or just another piece of technology you forget is there?

Is the 2026 Ram 1500 Tungsten worth nearly $12,000 more than the Limited?

We compare two actual trucks with almost identical window-sticker prices to see where the money goes. Both offer the 540-horsepower High-Output Hurricane engine, four-corner air suspension, massaging seats and advanced technology.

The Tungsten delivers Ram’s finest interior, premium materials and 23-speaker Klipsch audio. But a properly equipped Limited can provide much of the same performance, comfort and technology—plus options like Night Edition and RamBox.

The Limited can’t completely duplicate what the Tungsten is, but it can duplicate much of what the Tungsten does. Which Ram 1500 would you choose?

If a dealership’s advertising doesn’t tell the whole story, how do you know who to trust?

Start with the people who have already been through the process.

Don’t just look at the star rating—read the reviews. Did the numbers stay the same? Were there last-minute surprises? Was communication consistent? Did the paperwork match what was promised?

One review can be emotional. But when hundreds or thousands of customers keep saying the same thing, a pattern starts to emerge.

Advertising makes promises. Reviews prove whether a dealership keeps them.

Don’t just let a dealership tell you who they are. Let their customers tell you.
