With car vs deer season upon us I took this picture today to show the result of two different reactions to seeing that deer in front of you. The vehicle on the right hit the deer. It sustained some damage but will most likely be fixed. The vehicle on the left swerved to miss the deer, lost control and rolled over. The first instinct when we see an animal on the road is to jerk the wheel and try to avoid it. We need to train ourselves to overcome this as it rarely ends well. The best thing to do is brake hard and repeat in your head straight, straight, straight if you hit it so be it. Vehicles can be repaired/replaced you can not. So please drive safe and remember to Move Over and Slow Down for all vehicles displaying flashing lights on the side of the road.

A little tip/trick I use when driving on foggy days like today. If your car is equipped with automatic headlights they are not triggered on foggy, snowy, or rainy days. You have to physically turn the switch to on for your headlight/tail lights to activate. Vehicles with the auto setting should have a sensor similar to the one pictured somewhere on the dash. What I do is use my hat to cover this sensor so it thinks it's night and turns my lights on. This takes the worry of forgetting to turn the switch back to off or auto when I reach my destination.
