Good Deeds Day, which this year falls on Sunday, April 16th, is an international day to encourage people to do their part by doing good, whether it’s volunteering at a local food bank, coaching a youth sports team, helping to maintain a park, donating money to a worthwhile charity, or through any number of other ways, doing good should be celebrated.

Good Deeds Day dates to 2007, when it was started by Shari Aronson, a businesswoman and philanthropist. Since its founding, Good Deeds Day has annually attracted millions of volunteers around the world.

Auto Plus applauds our customers’ and Team Members efforts to improve their communities – whether they happen on Good Deeds Day or any day throughout the year.

And on Good Deeds Day, we are reminded that no act of kindness is too small to make a difference.

For do-it-yourselfers (DIY), spring is the perfect time to get under the hood to tackle repair projects or perform preventative maintenance on cars and trucks. It's this enduring independent spirit that’s celebrated on National DIY Day, which falls in the spring and is April 2.

As vehicles have become increasingly computerized over the years, the range of repairs DIYers can complete has certainly changed! Still, there are several projects and tasks you can tackle on your own – and for which Auto Plus can provide the needed parts, accessories, and expertise.

Some of the most common include:

• Changing engine oil
• Replacing windshield wipers
• Swapping out filters
• Checking and replacing the battery
• Replacing bulbs
• Removing small dents
• Topping off fluids
• Recharging the vehicle’s air conditioner
• Replacing fuses

Whatever the job, we at Auto Plus salute DIYers and we’re proud to do what we can to help DIYers be successful – so you can get back to enjoying your vehicles in the spring weather.

While St. Patrick’s Day is wildly popular, not everyone understands why we celebrate it. Here are answers to common questions to help you better appreciate this uniquely festive holiday.

Who was St. Patrick? Born in the fourth century, he is celebrated as the patron saint of Ireland. He did not, however, as myth has it, drive all the snakes from Ireland. St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated on March 17, the date of his death.

When was St. Patrick’s Day first celebrated? According to Time magazine, “the March 17 celebration started in 1631 when the church established a Feast Day honoring St. Patrick.” History.com says the first celebration in the U.S. took place in Boston in 1737.

Where are the largest celebrations? While there are celebrations marking the holiday across Ireland and elsewhere, many U.S. cities – including Chicago, New York, San Francisco, New Orleans, Seattle, and Washington, D.C. – host large parades and other events.

What’s the origin of green beer? Drinking green beer on St. Patrick’s Day began in America. Dr. Thomas A. Curtin of New York is widely credited with first creating green beer and serving at his social club for a St. Patrick’s Day celebration in 1914.

About that green beer, if you plan to celebrate the holiday by consuming alcohol, all of us at Auto Plus remind you to do so in moderation and to arrange for a designated driver.

Auto Plus reminds you when it’s time to move clocks forward one hour, it’s also the perfect time to change your vehicle’s oil and to inspect brakes after a winter’s worth of wear to see if they should be replaced.

In addition, the arrival of daylight saving time is also a great time to spring clean your vehicle. Here are some helpful cleaning tips:

Use the right soap. Instead of dishwashing liquid, which can harm your vehicle’s paint, use a soap especially formulated for car and truck finishes.

Clean off the hard-to-remove stuff. To remove the tar, debris, and dead bugs that inevitably get stuck to your car’s finish, use a product such as a bug and tar remover or a clay bar kit.

Wash the (entire) windows. When cleaning windows, roll them down slightly so you can access the top edges, which can attract more than their fair share of grime.

Work from top to bottom. Save cleaning the floor mats and vacuuming and shampooing the carpet for last, after you clean the doors, seats, and dashboard, as the dirt removed from these areas will accumulate on the floor.

After a long winter, it’s time to show a car or truck a little TLC with fresh oil and new tires –
and to use that extra hour of daylight to do a thorough cleaning, from antenna to tires.
