I told you we were going to race, rain or no rain. As much as I hated to have weather a factor, it was also great to see 1000+ people making the best of a bad situation.
And even with rain, there was some great racing. I saw some bar to bar banging, really aggressive high lows, and some last straight drag races which surprised me given the amount of rain falling. Not to mention Jonathan "el Mozkito" Suarez and Peter Elizondo going into the last turn in the ProAm at what looked like 60mph and sticking the turn. We called the ProAm racers to the hill at assigned times and they went at it, rain or not.
By my count, it was 368 riders and 78 motos. People traveled knowing full well it could be a weather effected event. To everyone who showed up and braved the weather, you are true racers. To all of our volunteers who spent 10 days working on the track, we thank you. We tore it up, but it held a lot of racing yesterday. People got muddier off the track than on, at least. Usually we get rain, sweep it off, and go back to racing. Not yesterday. Not to mention all of our volunteers that helped run the race. From scoring to staging to turn monitors to handing out goodies in concessions.
Once it stops raining, we'll get the track put back together and we'll go on with the program. In the meantime, Ms Sheryl is working on the final scoring and placements. USA BMX's systems aren't really built around a 1 and done race. We are waiting to hear back from USA BMX on getting everything updated and corrected. So if you look online, it is not final yet. the systems force you to enter something with the idea that it is a normal 2 moto + main race. We'll let you know when the scoring is final.
