🚨 WE'RE TAKING THE LONG WEEKEND SERIOUSLY. 🚨

The Labor Day weekend starts a little early around here. 😎🔧

We’ll be CLOSED Friday, September 4th so the Importmasters crew can enjoy an extra day of not laboring. Because apparently, one day of celebrating labor just wasn’t enough. 😂

We’ll be back in the shop Tuesday, September 8th at regular hours, refreshed, caffeinated, and ready to get back to work.

Until then, enjoy the extra day, fire up the grill, hit the road, and please don't let your check engine light ruin the long weekend. 😉

Have a safe Labor Day weekend from all of us at Importmasters!

Wrench Wednesday: Don't Judge Your Brakes by the Wheel Alone... 👀

From the outside, these rear brakes don't look too bad. But take a closer look at the rotor and you'll notice a rusty ring where the brake pad isn't making full contact with the braking surface.

That doesn't always mean there's a major problem, but it does tell us the braking surface isn't wearing perfectly evenly.

Brake rotors naturally wear over time. They can develop surface rust, grooves, or uneven areas, and once that happens, installing new brake pads on an old rotor isn't always the best solution.

Think of it like putting new tires on wheels that aren't quite straight the new parts may work, but they won't perform their best.

That's why we typically recommend replacing brake pads and rotors together. A fresh pad paired with a smooth, even rotor surface helps provide:

✅ Consistent braking performance
✅ Quieter operation
✅ Longer-lasting brake pads
✅ Reduced chance of brake pulsation or uneven wear

And let's talk about that dark coating on the wheel... that's brake dust. A little brake dust is completely normal it's simply part of your brake pads doing their job.

But if you notice squeaking, grinding, vibrations, pulling, or it's just been a while since your brakes were inspected, it's worth having them checked.

Your brakes have one important job: stopping your vehicle safely. Taking care of them helps keep your car stopping the way it should.

Feature Friday 🚌📚

School's back in session, so this week's feature is a vehicle that millions of Americans have ridden in but probably never thought much about.

The Blue Bird School Bus.

Blue Bird built its first school bus in 1927, and nearly a century later, it's still one of the most recognizable vehicles on the road.

Ever wonder why they're all that unmistakable shade of yellow?

That color is officially called National School Bus Glossy Yellow. It was chosen because it's one of the easiest colors for the human eye to spot in rain, fog, dawn, and dusk. Black lettering also creates one of the highest-contrast combinations possible, making the bus easier to identify from a distance.

But here's the really impressive part...

School buses are among the safest vehicles on the road. Instead of relying heavily on seat belts like passenger cars, they're built using a concept called compartmentalization. Those tall, closely spaced, energy-absorbing seats are engineered to help protect passengers by cushioning them during a crash.

Every school day, millions of students climb aboard one of these buses, and decades of engineering have made them one of the safest ways to travel.

Whether you rode one every day or just got stuck behind one on your morning commute... chances are, you've got a school bus story.

Welcome back to school...and remember to stop when those red lights flash. 🛑🚌

🔧 Wrench Wednesday 🔧

📚 Back to school means fresh pencils, new backpacks... and apparently, new engines.

This Audi wasn't quite ready for the next grade, so we decided to help it skip straight to Engine 2.0. 😎

Believe it or not, an engine replacement is one of the biggest jobs we perform. It's far more than simply removing one engine and installing another.

Every hose, sensor, wiring harness, fuel line, cooling component, accessory, and mount has to be carefully transferred, inspected, and reinstalled. Once everything is back together, the engine is filled with fresh fluids, programmed if necessary, and thoroughly tested to make sure it's ready for graduation.

The best part? When the job is done right, the driver gets back behind the wheel with confidence, knowing their Audi is ready for many more miles.

🎓 Class dismissed... this Audi just earned a second chance.

🚗 Meme Monday: Back to School Edition

The first week of school is here…

When a 10-minute pickup turns into a full-blown traffic event. 😂

Four lanes of cars, confused parents, kids running everywhere, and someone always trying to sneak into the wrong line.

Good luck out there, everyone. May your patience be strong and your coffee be stronger. ☕🚸

🔴 FEATURE FRIDAY: Volkswagen Type 2 Bus 🚌

"Life is a highway…" 🎶

If you grew up watching Cars, you probably remember Fillmore—the colorful, laid-back VW Bus who called Radiator Springs home.

But long before Pixar gave the Type 2 Bus a personality, Volkswagen created one of the most recognizable vehicles in automotive history.

Introduced in 1950, the Volkswagen Type 2 (also known as the Transporter or Bus) was built around a simple idea: take the reliable mechanicals from the Beetle and create a vehicle that could carry people, cargo, and adventure.

By the 1960s, the Bus had become much more than transportation. It became a symbol of freedom, road trips, camping, and a generation looking for new experiences.

Its simple air-cooled engine, spacious interior, and endless customization possibilities made it a favorite for families, businesses, and travelers around the world.

🧠 FUN FACT:
The Volkswagen Type 2 became such a cultural icon that it eventually earned nicknames like “Hippie Van” and “Kombi,” while remaining in production in some markets for over 60 years.

And yes… Fillmore from Cars was inspired by this exact kind of late-'60s Volkswagen Bus—bringing one of VW’s most beloved vehicles to a whole new generation.

From surf trips to family vacations to animated adventures, the Type 2 has always been built for the journey.

🔧 Wrench Wednesday 🔧

Timing is everything... just ask your engine. 😅

This Audi A5 is getting a new timing chain, and this is what it looks like with the front of the engine opened up.

See the chain? Think of it as the conductor of an orchestra. Its job is to keep the pistons, valves, and camshafts all performing in perfect harmony. If one section gets out of sync... the concert ends early. 🎻💥

Those orange pieces are the timing chain guides, and the silver arm is the tensioner. Together, they keep the chain tight and running exactly where it should.

Over time, these components wear, and the chain can begin to stretch. When that happens, you might notice:
🔹 A rattle on cold starts
🔹 A check engine light
🔹 Rough running
🔹 Timing-related fault codes

Ignore those warning signs long enough, and the engine may decide to introduce its valves to its pistons... and trust us, they were never meant to meet.

Replacing the timing chain, guides, and tensioner before that happens is a whole lot easier—and cheaper—than replacing an engine.

Moral of the story: If your engine starts telling you it's out of time, don't be fashionably late to get it checked out. 😉

Feature Friday ⚡🚗

Most people know it as the time machine from Back to the Future.

But the DeLorean DMC-12 has a story that's every bit as fascinating as the movie itself.

Founded by former General Motors executive John DeLorean, the company set out to build a sports car unlike anything else on the road. The result was the DMC-12, introduced in 1981 with features that immediately made it stand out.

✨ Brushed stainless steel body panels — no paint required.
🪽 Gullwing doors inspired by exotic supercars.
🇬🇧 Built in Northern Ireland at a brand-new factory created to boost local employment.

The chassis was engineered by Lotus founder Colin Chapman, giving the car impressive handling despite its modest 130-horsepower PRV V6 engine. It wasn't the fastest sports car of its era, but it was one of the most distinctive.

Unfortunately, financial trouble forced the DeLorean Motor Company to close after only about 9,000 cars were built.

Then, in 1985, everything changed.

A starring role in Back to the Future transformed the DMC-12 from a commercial failure into one of the most recognizable cars ever made. Today, it's one of the few vehicles whose cultural legacy far exceeds its production numbers.

Sometimes becoming a legend isn't about being the fastest...

It's about being unforgettable.
