1967 Chevrolet Impala — “Baby”
If you've watched Supernatural, you already know this car isn't just transportation.
It's Baby.

The Wi******er brothers' black 1967 Chevrolet Impala became one of the most recognizable cars on television during the show's 15-season run. And there's a pretty good reason the producers chose an Impala: according to creator Eric Kripke, he wanted something with a big trunk—because, well... you can put a body in it. 😳

The real 1967 Impala was available with everything from a 250-cubic-inch six-cylinder to a 427 V8. In Supernatural, Baby is said to have a 327 V8 with a four-barrel carburetor making 275 horsepower. autoevolution
And Baby definitely earned her keep.

Fun fact:
They didn't film 15 seasons with one magical Impala. 😂
The production eventually had nine different 1967 Impalas—hero cars, stunt cars, wrecked cars, and even a specially modified car that could have its roof and doors removed to get camera shots that would otherwise be impossible.

After 327 horsepower, countless monster hunts, several spectacular wrecks, and 15 seasons, Baby became much more than a prop.
She became part of the Wi******er family.
And honestly...

That's one hell of a way to spend 15 seasons. 🖤

This 2014 VW Jetta came in with a complaint that sounds pretty simple:

“My battery keeps going dead.” 🔋

But that's where the diagnosis begins—not where it ends.

We found an abnormal battery draw and started tracing where that electrical current was going after the vehicle was shut down. The culprit?

The cooling fan assembly.

A closer look revealed broken fan fins, and the damaged fan assembly was contributing to the battery draw. So what started as a battery complaint turned out to be a cooling fan problem.

So what does that fan actually do?

The cooling fans help pull air through the radiator and A/C condenser when there isn't enough natural airflow—especially when the vehicle is sitting still or moving slowly. They're an important part of keeping engine temperatures under control and helping the A/C system do its job.

Things to watch for include:

🌡️ Engine temperature running higher than normal
❄️ A/C performance changing while sitting still
🔊 Unusual fan noises or vibration
🔋 A battery that keeps going dead
⚠️ Cooling system or electrical warning lights

And in this case, broken fan fins were a pretty good clue that something wasn't right.

This is a great example of why proper diagnosis matters. If we'd simply replaced the battery, we'd have treated the symptom instead of finding the problem.

The battery wasn't the problem. It was just the one getting blamed for it. 😂

New cooling fan assembly going in, and this Jetta will be ready to stay cool and keep its battery where it belongs—in the car, not on the charger.

The Car — 1971 Lincoln Continental Mark III

Before Christine came along, there was another horror movie where the car itself was the monster.

Released in 1977, The Car follows a small desert town being terrorized by a mysterious, seemingly driverless black car. And that sinister machine started life as a much more civilized luxury coupe: a 1971 Lincoln Continental Mark III. Wikipedia
The real Mark III was already a serious piece of American luxury powered by a 460-cubic-inch V8, with the enormous proportions and long hood you'd expect from a 1970s Lincoln. For the movie, legendary Hollywood car customizer George Barris transformed it into something considerably more evil. DocumentaryTube
Barris lowered the roof, reshaped and enlarged the fenders, added custom bodywork, blacked everything out, and gave it those creepy amber windows. The result looked less like a luxury coupe and more like something that had crawled out of the desert looking for its next victim. Wikipedia

Four cars were built for the movie, including dedicated stunt cars. Several met rather unfortunate endings during filming—because apparently destroying a perfectly good Lincoln wasn't enough; they needed multiple Lincolns to do it. 😂 Wikipedia

And that creepy horn?

According to director Elliot Silverstein, its distinctive sound was intended to represent the letter “X” in Morse code...meaning elimination of its victims.

🔧 Wrench Wednesday: Things Are Getting a Little Too Hot 🥵

This 2018 VW Beetle came in needing a water pump, and this one had a pretty good reason for asking for a replacement:

The plastic housing MELTED. 🔥

The water pump's job is to keep coolant circulating through the engine so it can carry heat away and keep everything operating at the proper temperature.
But when coolant circulation is compromised, temperatures can climb quickly. And once things get hot enough, plastic components in the cooling system aren't exactly thrilled about the situation.

That's what we found here — a water-pump housing that had suffered from excessive heat and was no longer in acceptable condition.
And this is why overheating isn't something to shrug off with:
“Eh, it'll probably be fine.”

That's usually how the repair bill gets promoted from “water pump” to “water pump and a bunch of other stuff.” 😬

So remember:
🌡️ Temperature warning? Pay attention.
💧 Coolant disappearing? Find out why.
🔥 Engine overheating? Shut it down and investigate.

1958 Plymouth Fury — "Christine"
We're kicking off October with a car that proves sometimes the vehicle really is the villain. 😈

Long before it became a horror icon, the 1958 Plymouth Fury was one of the most distinctive cars of the late '50s. It came with dramatic tailfins, quad headlights, a wraparound windshield, and plenty of chrome—because apparently subtlety wasn't an option in 1958.
Under the hood, the movie's Christine was based on a Fury equipped with a 350 cubic-inch V8 producing 305 horsepower, backed by a 3-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission.

Then came the horror story.
Stephen King's novel Christine was published in 1983, followed by John Carpenter's film adaptation later that same year. In the story, the car develops a mind of its own—and a very unhealthy attachment to its owner.

👻 Fun fact:
The movie's Christine wasn't actually one car. Multiple 1958 Plymouths were used during filming, with different cars modified for different shots and stunts.
So the next time you see a red '58 Plymouth...

Your fuel filter has one job: keep the junk out of the expensive stuff. 😂
This VW Golf is getting a new fuel filter, and while it may not be the most exciting part under the car, it plays an important role in keeping the fuel system happy.
Fuel can carry tiny particles and contaminants that you definitely don't want making their way toward the fuel pump and injectors. The filter catches that debris before it can cause problems.
And just like any filter, it doesn't last forever. As it collects contamination, it can become restricted and make the fuel system work harder to move fuel where it needs to go.
A neglected fuel filter can contribute to:
⛽ Restricted fuel flow
⛽ Poor engine performance
⛽ Hard starting
⛽ Hesitation or loss of power
⛽ Extra strain on the fuel system
Think of it like a bouncer at the club:
“Sorry, dirt. You're not on the list.” 🕶️
Replacing the filter at the appropriate service interval is a pretty simple way to help protect the fuel system and keep the engine getting the fuel it needs.
Small filter. Big responsibility.
That's a lot of pressure for something that spends its entire life hiding underneath the car. 😂

Under the hood? Twelve cylinders.
The Audi A8 had already established itself as Audi's flagship luxury car, but in 2001, Audi took things to another level with its first production W12-powered A8. Audi had experimented with twelve-cylinder ideas before, but the W12 that reached production was based on Volkswagen Group's unique narrow-angle VR engine technology. audi.com

So what exactly is a W12?
Instead of a traditional V12, the engine essentially uses four rows of three cylinders. The unusual layout allowed Audi to package 12 cylinders into an incredibly compact engine—in fact, Audi says the later W12 was shorter than a V8. 🤯 Audi Technology Portal

Depending on the generation, the A8 W12 grew from the original 6.0-liter, 450-horsepower version to a 6.3-liter producing 500 horsepower in later A8 L models. Naturally, it came with quattro all-wheel drive and an automatic transmission. audi.com

Fun fact:
Audi's W12 was so compact that you could have an executive luxury sedan with 12 cylinders under the hood... and most people would have absolutely no idea what they were looking at.
Because apparently Audi thought:
“You know what this luxury sedan needs?
More cylinders than most people have reasons for.” 😂
The A8 W12 is one of those wonderfully unnecessary pieces of German engineering that we can't help but appreciate.
