Oct. 11, 2026. Last week, Maui car rental prices from Kahului Airport (OGG) doubled, this week, they were cut in half. Welcome to the seasonal fall Maui car rental price roller-coaster. Expect major price swings from now through Christmas... and beyond!

October 4, 2026. Maui car rental prices surged upward in the first week of October, just as they did last year. Prices on four-door cars and Jeeps more than doubled in just one week. Prices on SUV's and minivans were up more than 50%. There is no real reason why this should be happening right now - but it seems to happen every year at this time.

Sep. 27, 2026. The Hurricane Nolo fly-by disrupted travel and caused Maui car rental cancellations, with a temporary dip in car rental prices. But prices are expected to resume rising into mid-October.

Sep. 20, 2026. This week, we break two major Maui car rental stories. The first is the great convertible cancel of 2026, a mass extinction event. The second is the Hertz corporate blackout of September 2026. Black September, anyone?

Sep. 13, 2026. The fall travel season is kicking off early, with price increases across the board in nearly all Maui rental car categories. Even so, prices are still affordable. But this may not last for long.

September 6, 2026. For this coming week, Maui car rental prices are virtually unchanged from last week, and they remain at or near their rock-bottom level for the year. Travelers should note an exceptional deal on Jeep Wrangler, at just $277/week from Thrifty at Kahului Airport (OGG). This price includes all taxes and fees. With another tropical disturbance - Hurricane Lowell - approaching, prices could dip down even further - but they cannot go much lower from current levels. Details in comments.

Aug. 30, 2026. Average prices for the month of August 2026 were higher for most Maui rental car categories than they were a year earlier - but not all. Prices for minivans and large SUV's - the people-movers - were lower. Discover why, and where are prices headed. Link in comments.
