YOpeners Handmade bottle openers crafted by me and my son. I have a son with autism and he loves to be out in the garage "helping" when I'm woodworking.

Due to vision and dexterity issues, he can't be trusted with the power tools. This is a project we can do together with him helping press the carriage bolt into the opener. They're a lot of fun to make and we can make a bunch at once and figured we would sell them so we could buy the materials to make the next batch. We charge almost exactly what it costs to make them and ship them. As for the ver

sion with the wax-cutter, they're pretty labor-intensive so we don't make nearly as many of those. Of course, they're the ones people go crazy for.

With bottled beer dying a slow death, we haven’t been doing a lot of fun or exotic openers the last couple years. Well… Josh won a silver medal at the Special Olympics summer games yesterday so we got out in the workshop to celebrate. Ipe, sometimes referred to as Brazilian walnut, is an incredibly hard, dense, heavy, brutal on your saw blades exotic wood that I think is absolutely gorgeous with a couple coats of shellac (we usually leave our openers raw and unfinished in their natural state).

He is the clown of the dog fraternity,
canines answer to vaudeville. A laugh a minute, lives life to the fullest, a maximum velocity version of canine slapstick. But he is also a sympathetic soul, a shoulder to cry on, a confidante.
