✨ Grant Update ✨ Check out the new Celestine Volunteer Fire Department fire engine! This engine replaces a 20-year-old truck and will strengthen emergency response for the Celestine community. We proudly supported the purchase with a $30,000 grant last year — made possible by The Fund for Dubois County and the Celestine Community Endowment. 🚒

Many don’t know , The City of Huntingburg is our first customer and the very reason Dad began way back in April of 1979.
We appreciate the recognition, I know he would.
Thank you for serving!

Tornado Sirens Are Operational Again!

We’re happy to report that all 7 of our tornado sirens are back online! A big thank you to Harmonic Electronics for finding a temporary fix of the three that were not working while we wait for the new parts to arrive.

Our sirens were working just fine until a recent county upgrade caused an unforeseen issue that disrupted communication between our system and dispatch. Thanks to Harmonic’s quick work, we’ve got a solution in place to keep everyone safe in the meantime.

Important Reminder: Tornado sirens are designed to alert people who are outdoors—they are not meant to wake you up during severe weather.
Make sure you have multiple ways to receive weather alerts, like mobile apps, NOAA weather radios, or local news alerts.

Thanks for your patience and stay safe!

This evening at 21:05 Luce Fire was dispatched, once again, to a single vehicle in the backwater. This time it was North of Richland on SR 161. The driver chose to drive around (2) Road Closed barricades placed in the highway (shown in the picture).

Their decision to drive around the barricades not only put their lives in danger, but it endangered the lives of 12 firefighters, 2 Ambulance Crew and 2 sheriff’s deputies.

These extremely cold temperatures, combined with the flooding and the icing are extremely dangerous and unforgiving.

Once again, Do Not drive through a flooded area and definitely do not drive around barricades to try and reach your destination.

FYI this is our 4th one in as many days. 🤦

A highway construction worker was injured when a truck hit the paving equipment he was operating on Tuesday August 6th.
Please avoid highway 550 in Martin County unless you absolutely need to travel it. Construction crews are milling and paving the narrow curvy highway.
If you do need to travel on highway 550 you will encounter on either side of the active work area warning signs, a sheriff deputy, and flagman controlling traffic.
Please proceed safely to help us get all the crew members back home at the end of each day.
