🟢🟢Swayback Bridge Update🟢🟢
To address the County Road 77 bridge. Last week we had a hole come up in the bridge, after inspection we found we needed to put a temporary patch in place until we could plan for a permanent solution. A sheet of metal was screwed down with concrete screws. We have been monitoring the situation every morning. After it was inspected today a Facebook post was made in regards to the some of the screws coming out. Please if anything like this pops up and you see it call the Winston County Road Dept at (205)-489-5031 or my cell number (205)-272-9152 before going to social media. That’s how we found out the some of the screws had backed out. Since then our engineers office has went back and put nuts and bolts through the metal and concrete to secure the plate. Both times the plate has been placed it has been done by a professional engineers or a licensed bridge inspector. It is still going to be monitored by a licensed inspector everyday to make sure it is still safe for travel and yes we are fortunate enough to have two of them employed at the Winston County Road Department. However there will come a time when there will be a temporary closure. Right now if conditions stay the same and do not deteriorate it will be the week after Memorial Day weekend. The reason we are holding off on making a permanent repair is because it will be a 12-18 hour closure which will affect work, school, and EMS traffic. There are four school buses that travel it twice daily and they would have to be rerouted all the way around to Addison so we are trying to plan around that. Like I said we are monitoring it very early each morning and putting safety first so if our engineer office sees something that looks like it could be a safety issue there will be an emergency shut down without any notice. We will try to put out a weeks notice on the planned shut down.
