Got hail damage? I feel for you, I really do. Those storms were wild. I do have some advice for anyone with hail damage on their vehicles. I have had a lot of calls from customers that aren’t sure if they are going through their insurance or paying out of pocket, and that is fine. But, if there is noticeable damage on multiple panels, the cost of repairs will likely be over your deductible.
As far as insurance companies go, I DO work with the insurance companies, but I work FOR YOU. Once you have a claim set up and receive your claim number, feel free to reach out for an estimate. If you have Progressive, they do things a little different. Once you set up your claim, an adjuster will contact you to do an initial estimate. They are usually low and not accurate. After they do their initial estimate, then you can reach out for an estimate from me, or anyone else.
Some insurance companies make it sound like you have to go to a certain shop for the repairs. Sometimes they use scare tactics, or just word things in a way to make it sound like you have no choice. Why? Because they want you to go to their “Preferred Facility” or ”Network Partner“.
What are these facilities? They’re Direct Repair Program shops, or DRP. They have an agreement with the insurance company to work for a reduced rate in exchange for referrals. To me it’s legalized steering. Are they all bad? Absolutely not. But some of them care more about making quick money from the insurance company than they do any making sure things are done right for the customer. No matter who you choose for your repairs, whether it’s me or someone else, you should ask them how hard they will fight on your behalf to make sure a repair is done correctly. This is especially important for collision claims.
The bottom line is they absolutely can not force you to go anywhere for your repairs. This is called steering, and it is very illegal.
If you are looking for an estimate from me, I will be working at Body Crafters in Brodhead, Rock Lake Paint and Repair, and Fueled Customs, both in Lake Mills. Feel free to call them for an appointment, or you can reach me directly at (608)449-2745.
Lastly, me, and every other PDR tech in the area is very overwhelmed. If you call me, there is a very good chance I’m not going to answer. please leave a message and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.
Thank you to everyone that has already reached out and shown patience with any delays in getting back to them.
I almost forgot, just one more thing…support your local PDR technicians. We have a few good ones in the area.
