Before you know it, Spring will be here... (We can't wait)!
As the cold starts to leave and the warmer temps come into play, we'd love to help you have your vehicle prepared. Therefore, every Tech Tip Tuesday will be dedicated to different steps of getting your car prepped for Spring.
This week, let's talk TIRES because cold weather lowers tire pressure, while the heat that comes during Spring can cause over-inflation.
Be sure to check all of your tires (including the spare) & their pressures to be sure they are all at the correct recommended levels. You can typically find the recommended levels on the door jamb sticker (be sure to go off this and not the tire sidewall).
You want to also ensure that your tread depth is at least 2/32". You can do this by using the Penny Test, which is a simple, quick method to check if tire tread depth is below the safe, legal minimum of an inch. This method recommends you insert the penny upside down into tread grooves. If Lincoln's entire head is fully visible, the tread is too worn and it is time for new tires.
With the snow melting and the rain we've had, there may be more potholes on the roads. Hitting those are sometimes inevitable, which may not be good for a lot of aspects of your vehicle, but especially your tires. You also will need to inspect tires for bulges or knots, which indicate internal damage from hitting potholes.
Remember, our trusted team here at C-Side Auto can help you check and inspect your tires to make sure you are moving into the warmer months with safe tires.
