With Hurricane Milton heading towards Florida, here are 7 Essential Tips to keep your vehicle, including electric vehicles (EVs), safe during the storm:
1) Park on High Ground: Move your car to a garage, higher ground, or an elevated parking structure to avoid floodwaters.
2) Protect Windows: Use car covers or blankets to shield windows from debris and minimize damage in case of high winds.
3) Fuel Up or Charge Up: Gas stations and charging stations may close during the storm. Fill your gas tank or charge your EV to full capacity in case you need to evacuate quickly.
4) Disconnect the Battery (Gas Vehicles): If you’re in an area at high risk for flooding, disconnect the battery to protect your vehicle’s electrical system.
5) EV Owners – Prep for Power Outages: Charge your EV as early as possible, but don’t overcharge. Make sure you have a backup charging plan in case of prolonged outages. Store Your EV Safely: If you need to evacuate without your EV, park it outside flood-prone areas and at least 50 feet away from structures or other vehicles.
