Congratulations and Happy Birthday to my dad Joel Wherley! He’s loving his 2016 E400 class Mercedes convertible!! I look up to this man probably more than he knows or I have shown him at times! My parents had me at the young age of 20 and 21. They had nothing starting out. He put himself through college while working a full time job as a grocery store manager working 50hrs a week and raising a new born. Over the last 34 yrs he has worked his a$$ off, succeeding at every job he took on. Starting as a respiratory therapist, then to sales of medical equipment, then to sales manager, district manager, regional manager, Vice President and now Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the nations leader in hospice, oh and he also is a real-estate agent in his “free” time. Though he had to spend countless hours on the road traveling and staying in hotels all week long, to provide for our family, he somehow never missed a single one of my sporting events growing up. To say he is an inspiration to me and our family would be an understatement. Though we have often butt heads over the years (usually my fault) he has always been there for me no matter what, supported me through every up and down and has never given up on me. He always has been and will always be my number one role-model, mentor, friend, coach, inspiration all of the above. I love you more than words can describe Dad. Enjoy your new ride, you deserve it!!

I know it’s a cliché, but it is a small world and things happen for a reason. This guy right here was just someone that called in from Chillicothe, IL, and I just happened to take the call. This summer I had the privilege of coaching a 13U boys baseball team that played in a wonderful tournament in Peoria and Chillicothe, IL for charity for St. Jude’s cancer research. This hit home for me with my younger brother Chad being diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma at a young age and beating it!! It was my first experience with this tournament but it has been giving back for 15yrs now and has grown to 320 teams that participate a year. Not knowing his last name yet I explained that I had coached a tournament in Chillicothe called the Brad Wallin tournament... he looked me straight in the eye and said “that was my son” and “that’s my tournament” talk about goosebumps!!
