2026 Yukon AT4 came in for the full treatment! After the dealership “coated” this when it was new, the customer could tell it wasn’t protected since he has had our shop coat multiple vehicles in the recent past. The dealership was convenient, less expensive, and offered a “warranty”. But what the dealerships are really doing is charging a premium for basically a spray wax with a small percentage of ceramic content (as low as 2%), so they can call it a “ceramic coating”. In many cases their process is finished within an hour start to finish after the car is washed. Sometimes much less depending on what they’re using. The other thing dealers aren’t always doing is polishing the paint to remove defects and properly prep the surface for a coating to be able to bond properly. There is extensive prep and knowledge required for the job to be done right. And even if they are polishing… are they doing it correctly? Are they checking over their work with proper lighting? So many questions as to how they’re able to do such a high end service for a convenient price, in such a short time frame. My consensus is in most cases you’re not getting what you’re paying for. In some cases worse off than you started. I have spent almost 30 hours just fixing dealership mistakes. Luckily I got this Yukon dialed back in within a reasonable time. The dealer didn’t damage paint or create a lot more work for me. The product they used just didn’t hold up after about a month of touchless and hand washes.
To get this thing dialed in right, the exterior received a thorough chemical decontamination, clay bar treatment, engine bay and wheels deep cleaned, paint and glass polished to remove defects, etching, light scratches, and to ensure whatever the dealer applied was completely removed. After polishing, a complete wipe down with a coating prep/alcohol solution to remove all polish residue and oils. Then the coatings are carefully and evenly applied and leveled. A process like this cannot be done in an hour. A car this size done properly can take anywhere from 12-20 hours depending on paint condition and what surfaces are being coated. If you are rushing the job you can make a day out of it, but I promise things are being overlooked and missed, leading to a compromised finished product. This car got all the paint, trim, glass and wheels protected along with a full interior detail. Properly protected and looking better than it did sitting in the showroom!
When it comes to vehicle protection, getting it done right the first time saves you money in the long run. If you have a budget to stay within, I have many options that get you something better than any dealership can offer and for less money than they’re charging. Or you can go for the best of the best, and everything in between. One thing you always get at this shop is the job done with love and care. Profit always comes second to the satisfied customer!
