The 1955 Porsche 550 Spyder that tragically ended the life of young star James Dean at the age of 24 en route to a race in Salinas, California. Named “Little Bastard” by Dean, it is one of the most famous pieces of both automotive and Hollywood history and was truly an honor for us to recreate for Neil Sheehan and The James Dean Museum

From the color scheme, absent front left turn signal lens, the Nurburgring badge mounted on the left fender, the license plate, the hand painted numbers and lettering by Valentina Trentini, and all the correct period parts, we wanted to capture as many details as we could and encapsulate what this car would have looked like under Dean’s ownership.

We are so excited to see this car displayed in the James Dean Museum in Fairmount, Indiana and continue the legacy.

Another project comes to a close.

Our client acquired this Spyder and immediately sent it to us for the fibersteel treatment, a near complete restoration with a number of upgrades. The biggest undertaking was making a new clamshell with the correct 550 proportions and all those beautiful lines. Painted to match the stunning blue on the front half of the car and topped off with white tail spears with gray pinstriping. Finished with a handcrafted aluminum inner structure, it is certainly the highlight of this car.

A bespoke aluminum interior followed, accompanied by handwoven leather upholstery tailored to our client’s specifications.

On the mechanical end, we stripped everything and completely built it back. All new plumbing, a GT fuel tank cover, engine and transmission rebuild, our pedals, shifter, and handbrake, along with a number of other parts and accessories throughout.

A few more of our favorite details include the engine turned instrument panel, original style gauges, and autopulse fuel pumps.

We are thrilled with the finished result and so excited to reunite the owner with his blue beauty!

Introducing our latest build - Beck Spyder #195

A complete nut and bolt restoration, with no piece left untouched. Completely stripped and built back up in fibersteel fashion with all our best handcrafted parts.

Featuring multiple body modifications including smoothed wheel wells and undersides of the hood and clamshell, seamless frunk compartment, and an oil cooler tunnel with a functional cooler behind the grille and oil lines running through the chassis rails to the engine at the back for enhanced cooling. A completely bespoke raw aluminum interior, with 5-point harnesses, helmet fairing, racing roundels and a removable rollbar for this car’s future track days at Laguna Seca.

All fresh mechanicals, beautiful touches of forest green throughout, hand-painted gold pinstriping, and even a weekend bag to match. What more could you ask for?

Thrilled with how this one turned out and so excited to see it driven and raced by its loving new owner.
