What Your Tires Aren't Telling You

Join us September 10 at 1 p.m. Eastern Time for a discussion featuring:

Rence Oliphant: VP of Global Sales, Hendrickson. Decades of equipment-side experience, speaking to what fleets should expect from their partners when tire health is the priority.

Brett Suma: President & COO, Bot Auto. He'll share the on-the-road stories that show what a real smart trailer program catches, and what it means for fleets running with or without a driver behind the wheel.

Lawrence Bader: Retired Director of Global Fleet Systems, UPS. Decades of tire operations at enterprise scale, and what still holds up as the technology changes.

Derek LaFitte: Phillips Connect. Direct perspective on how equipment and technology come together in a comprehensive tire strategy.

Together, they'll break down what separates a fleet that's guessing from one that's knowing, on cost, safety, and efficiency.

Your CSA score is a line item and smart fleets know it.

Insurance renewals, broker relationships, even shipper contracts increasingly reference a fleet's safety scores. Tire-related violations, underinflation, worn tread, mismatched duals, are among the most common and most preventable CSA hits a trailer picks up at roadside inspection.

Every point against a fleet makes the next insurance renewal a harder conversation, and in some cases affects which loads a broker or shipper is even willing to hand a carrier.

A score built on prevention rather than good luck at the scale is a number a fleet can defend to an insurer, a customer, or an auditor.

On September 10 join us for a discussion called “What Your Tires Aren’t Telling You.” It’s time to explore how smart trailer solutions can improve your bottom line, CSA score and overall operational efficiency.

Most fleets don't know a tire is failing until it already has. A slow leak builds for miles, invisible to a walk-around, until it becomes a road call, a blown tire, or damage that spreads to everything around it. The gap between when a problem starts and when anyone notices is where cost, safety, and efficiency all take a hit.

Real-time tire intelligence closes that gap by catching what a driver's eyes can't and turns tire health from a guess into a verifiable metric. It delivers on the kind of program that lowers cost and strengthens safety at the same time, instead of treating the two as a trade-off.

Let's talk tires.

Join a panel of trucking, trailer and tire experts for a direct conversation on what a comprehensive tire program actually looks like once fleets stop reacting to failures and start running on real data. The panel includes Lawrence Bader, retired Director of Global Fleet Systems at UPS, one of the largest trailer fleets in the country, Rence Oliphant of Hendrickson, and Derek LaFitte of Phillips Connect.

You'll walk away with:
1. A clear picture of what real-time tire intelligence catches that a walk-around and driver judgment alone cannot.
2. A practical understanding of how tire data turns guesswork into a program, including what to track and why it matters.
3. What separates a fleet that manages tires reactively from one running a real program built around cost, safety, and efficiency.
4. Lessons from decades of tire operations at enterprise scale, and what still holds up even as the technology changes.
5. Direct perspective from Hendrickson and Phillips Connect on how equipment and technology fit into a comprehensive tire strategy.

Speakers:
- Lawrence Bader, Retired UPS Global Fleet Systems Director and Principal at Advanced Transportation Technology, LLC
- Rence Oliphant, VP of Global Sales, Hendrickson
- Derek LaFitte, Head of Business Development and Partnerships, Phillips Connect

An insurance adjuster spends three weeks trying to reconstruct what happened to a shipment, calling the shipper, the driver, and every stop along the route, and still ends up with three different versions of the same night.

CargoVision gives the adjuster one version instead of three. A timestamped visual record of every door event from pickup to delivery means there's already proof of exactly when and where anything happened to the cargo load.

Ask any fleet what's inside their trailers right now. You'll get a shrug, a phone call, or a guess.

That's strange when you think about it.

We track brake wear down to the millimeter, we know tire pressure in real time, but the actual freight, the thing all of this exists for, is still a mystery unless someone opens the doors, until now.

CargoVision does it all: load status, door events, available space, and cargo condition, all logged automatically in Connect1.

No more guessing what's behind your trailer doors.

Most trailer breakdowns don't happen without warning. They often happen because the warning wasn’t visible.

Smart trailer technology changes what fleet operators know and when they know it. Real-time trailer visibility means catching a tire pressure drop, a brake anomaly, or an air system problem before it becomes a roadside event, not after the trailer is already on the shoulder.

The fleets running the leanest maintenance programs aren't just fixing things faster. They're working from continuous operational insights across every asset in the yard, on the road, and at the dock, which changes what a PM looks like and what an unexpected breakdown actually costs.

That's what trailer intelligence delivers: not more data to manage, but a clear picture of what needs attention before it demands it.

A trailer that leaves the yard partially loaded because dispatch couldn't verify remaining volume is a missed revenue opportunity and a decision made in the dark. Those decisions compound across a fleet.

Shifted or unstable cargo is a different kind of exposure. It’s one that lands on the driver first, and on safety and risk teams not long after. Both problems share the same root cause: no visibility into what's actually happening inside the trailer until someone opens the door.

CargoVision gives fleet operators real-time cargo monitoring from the dashboard, precise volume metrics and interior images that make deployment decisions faster, safer, and more defensible before the asset ever leaves the dock.

"We check them when we have them in for PMs."

For most fleets, that’s the current standard for trailer tire pressure, and it’s a quiet drain on every highway mile in between.

Trailers spend long stretches sit at docks and out in drop yards with no one watching them, and pressure bleeds slowly. A tire 20 to 30 PSI under spec looks the same on a walk-around as one that’s fine, which means fleets routinely dispatch under-inflated trailers without knowing it.

Running 20 to 30 PSI low carries an 8% to 10% fuel penalty per mile. Across thousands of trailers, that’s not a rounding error, it’s a fuel budget eroding before the trailer even rolls out of the gate.

A trailer TPMS solution closes the gap in real time, instead of waiting for the next PM or a driver calling it in. Fleet managers get a precise alert the moment pressure drops past a preset threshold, early enough to act on it.

The operational insight is straightforward: the fleets protecting their fuel margins aren’t necessarily running more complex programs, they’re running ones with better trailer intelligence built in.

Can real-time trailer data actually reduce your annual CapEx by 33%?

The answer is yes, and Nussbaum Transportation has the data to prove it.

For decades, the standard industry playbook was to run a 10-year trailer trade cycle. But operating blind meant trailers drifted out of view for weeks, leaving maintenance teams reactive and operations guessing on exact utilization.

By deploying Phillips Connect across 100% of their fleet of 1,700 trailers, Nussbaum transformed their asset management strategy.

Leveraging real-time health and volumetric data through the Connect1 dashboard, they achieved:
- A 50% Asset Life Extension: Safely stretching their trailer replacement cycle from 10 years to 15 years.
- 33% Fewer Annual Purchases: Dropping the number of new trailers needed each year to maintain capacity.
- #1 CSA Benchmark Ranking: Proving that extending asset life doesn’t mean sacrificing safety or roadside uptime.

Stop over-buying equipment to compensate for blind spots. Turn the lights on for your trailers.

Where's your trailer? Easy question. Fleets have been answering it for years with a dot on a map.

But here's the harder, and more important, question: what is that trailer actually doing, and how healthy is it?

Is it leaving the dock full or half-empty? Is a tire heading toward a blowout? Is it sitting past the detention window at a customer's dock right now?

A location ping can't answer any of that. Real-time trailer visibility can.

Steve Randall breaks down why "knowing where it is" stopped being enough, and what fleets need instead.
