A life well lived
Lost one of the Best today.
RIP Theophile Bourgeois— FLYING HIGHER NOW!
A friend and precious character.
When I interviewed him years ago, he shared a personal story that he wouldn't mind my sharing. In fact, I know he'd be happy if it inspired others. He was a great teacher too.
When Theophile was a boy his father was working a job he didn't like, just waiting it out till his retirement. A few years before he could retire, his father died. Theophile vowed he would do what he loved in this life, and that was fish and hunt and guide for a living. He also wanted to fly a plane when he was old enough.
Theophile lived his life doing what he loved. There are literally thousands of people, around the US, and world, who will have happy life-long memories because of this man. They left knowing some of the best of what we have down here: great people who have "a little something extra." Any of his passion and humor and that something extra that rubbed off is that much more of good going around in this world.
I'll always remember him as one of the funniest and coolest characters I've met in my 45 years. I'm grateful to have known him. I doubt there's another fishing guide in the country who can write fishing forecasts that are spot on....and make you laugh out loud every time you read them.
Thanks man, you were awesome.

P.S. "Theophile" means "loved by God." He's doing alright. And he probably has God cracking up already.
