Did you know your car’s steering wheel is four times dirtier than a public toilet seat? 🤢 Driving around every day means accumulating bacteria, viruses, and grime right where your hands sit non-stop. Gas pump handles, door handles, shopping carts, coughing into your hands...you get the idea.
Here is how to sanitize your wheel and stop driving with a germ factory:
Use safe wipes: Keep isopropyl alcohol-based wipes (around 70%) or dedicated auto-interior disinfectant wipes in your glove box. Alcohol kills germs fast without ruining most synthetic wheels.
Microfiber + hydrogen peroxide: Lightly dampen a microfiber cloth—never directly onto the wheel to avoid frying the electronics behind it—and wipe thoroughly, including the back of the wheel and the turn signal stalks.
Condition leather: If you have a genuine leather wheel, use a specialized leather cleaner and follow up with leather conditioner so the alcohol doesn't dry out or crack the material.
Sanitize your hands: Keep hand sanitizer in your cup holder and use it before you grab the wheel, especially after touching gas pumps, grocery carts, or door handles.
Give your wheel a quick 30-second wipe-down once a week! 🧼🚗
