Hold Me- (John 10:27-30) We live in a day and age were being held by someone or something is forefront in our desires! The idea of safety and security are both wrapped into this feeling of being held! Let's go beyond a feeling and go to a truth that we don't need a feeling for! If you are in Christ and He is in you and that means you are His. What is so special about that? Here we see that this means that first off we are held by Jesus and no one can take us away from Him. Secondly God is greater than all things and is holding us on top of that. We are doubly held by Jesus and God so that again no one can take it out of Their hands! (Psalm 46) So we know God can hold us but how well can He hold us? Like how do we know He is worthy of our trust? Here and in many other Psalms we see that God can be trusted as our refuge and strength. And not just when things are good but especially when we need Him to be our refuge and strength! When the earth is removed, mountains are cast into the sea, the waters roar and the mountain shake. When everything is crazy He is there to trust in! And all He asks of us is for us to be still and know that He is God. It takes trust in who He is and that He can truly hold you through the storm!

Questions: Do you have the need or desire to be held? Will you realize before you reach out to others for that comfort that God is already holding and comforting you through the storm?

What a Messed Up World!- (Genesis 6:5) This world is a pretty messed up one! The days referenced in this chapter and verse are right before Noah and the worldwide flood! And I think that today we are moving closer and closer to mirroring the days that Noah lived in. I mean think about it these words that exclaim that the thoughts of man's heart were only evil continually. Doesn't that sound like the thoughts of men's hearts today? (John 9:1-3) What should we do in this world that is so messed up? First, may we not be reserved and tucked away from this crazy and messed up world. This along with several other accounts recounts people, the disciples here, questioning not only Jesus but the messed up world we live in. The disciples asked a question about who sinned instead of how can they be made whole. We live in a culture as believers that we are to shun sinners until they make themselves worthy for us to intervene! And that is wrong! (Matthew 7:3-5) But instead let us first look within and know that we are contributing to this messed up world! And let's seek to make ourselves right before we try to go and fix this messed up world we live in. As Jesus says here to take the beam out of your eye so you can see clearly to help those with something in there eye! And that is the next step, to go out and help others with their beams and splinters. But often due to our mistakes we think we are never good enough to help others! That we should continually remove the beam out of our eye and never be able to help others. When in reality Jesus says that is the next step.

Questions: Do you realize how messed up this world is? Will you seek to change it by first changing yourself?

Nothing is Too Hard for God!- (Jeremiah 32:17) How many times have we chose not to go to God with our problem because it's too hard or complicated for God to understand? Jeremiah makes a very important link in this verse. He makes a simple statement about God's amazing power! He looks up and is reminded that it is by God's power and outstretched arm that the heavens and the earth have been created. And with that truth in mind Jeremiah makes a proclamation that there is nothing too hard for this heaven and earth creator! (Luke 1:36-37) Do you believe anything is too hard for God? Let's look at this story! Mary, a young girl betrothed to be married to Joseph, gets chosen by God to bring into this world the Savior of this world! Here are some of Mary's excuses. First it is the status excuse! Me? Surely not me I'm just a regular girl! And the other is the physical excuse! Mary is just like this is physically impossible because I have never known a man that intimately! But the angel said to her that with God nothing shall be impossible! (John 14:12) But here is the best part Christian! If we truly believe that we are saved and have this relationship with God we must also know that His Spirit lives in us and we are to live in it! So if we live in that Spirit since nothing is impossible for God nothing is impossible for us. But to live in the Spirit means to abide in it. To abide in it does not mean to simply attend church, worship regularly or even read your Bible regularly although these are all things that we should do. It is taking time to be sensitive to what God wants you to do and doing that! If we do that Jesus said we would do works like Him and even greater!

Questions: Is there anything too tough for God? Christian, will you live in the Spirit and thereby live in God's power today?

Repent-(Jeremiah 26:3,13) Repent is an interesting word often we hear it in reference to people repenting. Here we see it speaking of God repenting! The word itself means to sigh or breathe strongly in this verse. Like if you were to be angry at something or somebody and you then decide to no longer be angry at that there is this deep sigh to calm you down. So, it is not just turning away from where you were. But there is a change! (Exodus 32:11-14) Here again we see God being angry with the children of Israel. But let's set the stage! Do you remember the story of the golden calf and how God's people went against Him? Well that was right before this and that is why God is so angry at His people. And if you recall Moses got a little angry as well! But here is Moses pleading with God to not destroy His people! Finally, God sighed and did not destroy His people! There was a change in what God decided to do! (Matthew 4:17) Here we see Jesus use the same English word as a command to us! So, does it have the same meaning? Yes, in the sense of a change of mind! In the Old Testament Scriptures God either did or was willing to change His mind. And here Jesus asked us to repent which means to think differently or afterwards, that is, reconsider. So, what are we to reconsider? We are to reconsider how we live our lives! In those days, much like us, the people of God lived a life that was full of self. So Jesus was asking them to reconsider the path of their life because the kingdom of Heaven is at hand!!

Questions: Will you reconsider where your life is headed today? If you do there's a promise that if you turn your life toward God He will hear, forgive and heal, will you turn to God today? (2 Chronicles 7:14)

Getting Out of the Rut- (Psalm 23) The temptation we face as Christians to stay in the same route for an extended period, beyond where God has called us. Can get us into a rut that is sometimes hard to escape from. And not necessarily an escape from God's ministry rather an escape to a relationship with God. In this 23rd Psalm we often identify with verses 4-6. And often verses 1-3 go unnoticed in our day-to-day life. We forget about the green pastures, still waters and the restoration. I am glad it says here that God makes us to lie down in green pastures, He leads us by still waters and restores our soul. I'm glad He does the work because we would rather be in the rut. If none of this sounds like your day to day life with God. I suggest you check your focus. Because without verses 1-3 you won't make it through versus 4-6!

Questions: Are you stuck in a religious rut that you may call ministry? Will you choose to take some time by the still waters and spend time with God?
