Houston...is that FALL we feel? 🍂

Okay, maybe we're getting a little ahead of ourselves. But after months of heat, rain is back and cooler temperatures are finally starting to show up.

Changing weather is a good reminder to check your car, too. Worn tires that seemed fine on dry pavement can become a problem in the rain. Summer heat can take a toll on batteries and wipers. And when temperatures eventually drop even more, you'll want to know your coolant has the proper freeze protection.

We put together a simple fall car care checklist for Houston drivers—including what you can check yourself and what to pay attention to after the rain.

**Squealing brakes? It doesn’t always mean you need new ones.**

Sometimes we inspect noisy brakes and find that the pads and rotors are in good condition. The squeal may come from the brake pad material itself—not a safety issue. Replacing the brakes may eliminate the noise, but that doesn’t mean replacement is necessary for safety.

We’ve added a new brake section to our FAQ page with answers to questions we hear every day, including why brakes squeal in the morning, why your car shakes when braking, and what a brake warning light might mean.

🌀 **A little preparation today can save a lot of stress tomorrow.**

There’s a tropical system in the Gulf that could bring heavy rain and storms to Southeast Texas on Tuesday. While the current outlook may keep the worst conditions away from Houston, Gulf weather can change quickly — and it never hurts to be prepared.

If you’re out today, take a few minutes to make sure you have:

• Drinking water
• Non-perishable food and snacks
• Prescription medications
• Flashlights and fresh batteries
• Portable phone chargers charged and ready
• Pet food and supplies
• Gas in your vehicle
• A little cash on hand
• Important medications/documents where you can easily grab them

**And don't forget your vehicle.**

⛽ Fill up your gas tank
🔋 Make sure your battery is healthy
🛞 Check your tires and tire pressure
💧 Check your wiper blades and washer fluid
🚗 Avoid driving through standing or flooded water — even if you think you know how deep it is

Houston weather has taught us plenty of times that it's better to have what you need and not need it than to be scrambling at the last minute. For weather updates, we recommend following Space City Weather. They’re our go-to for straightforward, Houston-specific forecasts without the hype or fearmongering. They’ll tell you what we know, what we don’t know yet, and what you actually need to be concerned about. https://spacecityweather.com/

Stay weather aware, stay safe, and take care of each other, Houston!

Is a diagnostic test the same as reading trouble codes?

Not quite.

Think of a trouble code like a ZIP code. It points us to the general area where the vehicle's computer detected a problem, but it doesn't give us the exact street address.

That's where diagnostic testing comes in. Our technicians test the system, analyze the data, and verify the actual cause of the problem before recommending a repair.

In other words, reading the code gives us a place to start. Diagnosis helps us find the actual problem.

Have an automotive question you've always wanted to ask a mechanic? Drop it in the comments! We'll answer it — and your question may even end up on our FAQ page.
