It’s crazy to think that the first RVS ever made were more than 100 years ago

Around 1910, the Pierce-Arrow Touring Landau is commonly cited as one of the first production vehicles built specifically for touring with onboard living amenities. It was still closer to a luxury touring car than a modern Class A, but it established the idea of combining transportation and lodging in one self-propelled vehicle.

By 1915, the Conklin Gypsy Van pushed the concept much further. It was a large custom vehicle built for a cross-country family trip and had sleeping space, a kitchen, electrical lighting, and a much more house-like interior. Visually, it looks much more like the ancestor of a true motorhome.
