You never know where life is going to lead you. Back in 2020, we took a chance and jumped headfirst into the world of upholstery. It was an industry we knew very little about, but we were determined to learn it, work hard, and make our mark. Fast-forward six years, and that leap of faith turned into an incredibly rewarding experience. Upholstery by Coleman has challenged us, taught us, and helped me and the boys grow in more ways than I could have imagined. In one way or another, every member of our family has been a part of Coleman’s over the years. Our grandkids have practically grown up here, knowing it simply as “PopPop’s shop.”
Coleman’s has not only provided for our family, but it has given us so much more than we ever could have imagined. It gave us experiences, memories, friendships, and lessons that we will carry with us for the rest of our lives. I have watch both my boys grow into adults here, and learn to manage and run a business. I truly cherish all Colemans has given us. But like many great things in life, there comes a time when one chapter ends and another begins. For our family, that day is today.
We have made the decision to step away from the day-to-day upholstery life, and pursue other interests. Our children are ready to spread their wings and blaze their own paths. This was never intended to be the final chapter for our family, and I’m excited for us to branch out, try new things, and experience new adventures. Upholstery by Coleman will always be a bright spot in our lives, and I am incredibly proud of everything we accomplished during our time here.
For those worried that the business you have come to depend on for great quality upholstery and service is going away, have no fear. The Upholstery by Coleman legacy will live on, just around the corner on Durham. And I couldn’t think of better hands to leave it in. Omar, who has worked at Coleman’s for 30 years, along with his sons, has acquired Upholstery by Coleman. They will continue providing the same craftsmanship, service, and quality our customers have come to expect from the little upholstery shop that has been a staple at 26th and North Shepherd since 1978. The shop may be moving just around the corner to 805 W. 24th Street, but the experience, craftsmanship, and Coleman legacy are going with it.
To everyone who trusted us with your furniture, referred a friend, supported our business, worked alongside us, or simply stopped in to say hello over the years, thank you. You helped make this journey something we will always remember. It has been one heck of an adventure, and the boys and I have learned so much from it. I’m proud of what we are leaving behind, excited to see Omar and his sons carry things forward, and looking forward to whatever adventure comes next.
Here’s to the next chapter.
