REMINDER: Do NOT strap your child into their car seat wearing a bulky costume, this is a safety concern.

With Halloween quickly approaching, I wanted to take a moment to remind everyone about this!

You don't want to have puffy costumes underneath the car seat harness because doing that can add additional room to the harness in the event of a crash. And that additional room in the harness will now make it so there is more room for the child to move during the crash and potentially move outside the protection of their car seat.

Can your child wear their Halloween costume in the car seat? Halloween safety tip: remove bulky costumes before buckling up in the car seat!

It's true—all carseats, from rear-facing only infant seats to booster seats have a limited lifespan! And no, it's not a plot from carseat manufacturers to get you to spend more money on carseats 😉.

Think about plastic lawn chairs and buckets left outside around your house. They're usually brittle after a summer or two. Carseats have to stand up to intense in-vehicle heat and freezing winter temps (depending on your area, of course). Manufacturers use different plastics depending on the function of the carseat and those lifespans vary.

Technologies also change, sometimes pretty drastically within the lifespan of a seat. The number of advancements we've seen in both safety and ease of use in the last 7-10 years is amazing 🤩!

Where can you find the expiry date? Look at the white Date of Manufacture label on the bottom or side of the seat or check for it to be stamped into the plastic of the shell. It may also be at the beginning of the manual in the warning bullet points.
