The dreaded CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. Everyone hates seeing this light come on, but this is a reality on modern day automobiles. Many times the Check Engine light is ignored, just hoping that it goes away. But ignoring it doesn’t fix it. The light comes on due to a government requirement that makes the light illuminate if the vehicle emissions is 1.5x times higher than the allowable limit.
Now several things can cause this to happen, from bad sensors, broken wires, malfunctioning computers to a loose gas cap. The biggest advice that I can give you is don’t ignore it. Eventually you will have to find out what is causing the Check Engine Light to illuminate and have it repaired. A code reader can be used to find out what the code states, but this can sometimes be misleading. Using a Diagnostic Scan Tool which will tell you what code is set AND what the car was doing when the code set s the best approach to take.
