Today we’re celebrating 2 years of Alex being part of the MTech team! One of the best parts of owning a shop is watching someone grow, and Alex’s growth over the past two years has been incredible. He grew up around cars, helping his father in his shop from a young age. When he first came to MTech, he had some automotive experience but very little experience working specifically on Mercedes vehicles.

Alex asked a lot of questions, paid attention, and learned the procedures and standards required in a high end Mercedes shop. Fast forward two years, and he is now working confidently in his own bay, taking on engine jobs, transmission work, and many of the biggest repairs that come through our doors. His mechanical ability has become one of his greatest strengths, and he is now continuing to develop his diagnostic skills as the next step in his career.

What stands out most is his consistency. Alex shows up every day ready to work, learn, and improve. That kind of dedication is rare, especially from someone his age, and it never goes unnoticed. Thank you for everything you do, Alex. We are proud of how far you have come and excited to see where the next few years take you.

Happy 2 Year Anniversary!

Celebrating Adam’s 3 year anniversary with 603 MTech Autowerks! It’s hard to believe it’s already been three years. Adam has truly been one of the best additions to MTech, and I couldn’t be more thankful for everything he brings to the shop.

Thank you for the hard work, dedication, and for showing up every day and giving it your all. There’s no job too big for Adam, and no matter what gets thrown his way, he finds a way to get it done. You’ve played a huge part in helping us get to where we are today, and without you, I’m honestly not sure where we’d be.

Three years down and many more to go. Thanks again for everything, brotha! ❤️

This E63 AMG came into the shop looking for one thing more power. The owner chose the full RENNtech R1 Package along with RENNtech catted downpipes to wake up the M177 twin turbo V8. We also installed the RENNtech Blow Off Valve Upgrade, Exhaust Valve Module, and Hand Held Tuner to complete the package.

The result? Around 800 horsepower with incredible throttle response, aggressive sound, and factory-like drivability. Before adding performance upgrades, we always make sure the engine is healthy. A solid foundation is the key to reliable power.

Would you keep your E63 AMG stock, or build it to 800 horsepower?

This 2016 AMG GTS came in with a blown turbo. The impeller completely came apart, sending debris through the exhaust and damaging the catalytic converter and O2 sensor.

The first question everyone asks is, “Was it the tune? Not necessarily. This Mercedes is tuned, but it’s also driven the way it was built to be driven. The owner regularly tracks the car and pushes it hard. Stock turbos can only handle so much heat and stress over time, and in this case overheating is the most likely cause of the failure.

To help improve reliability, we’re installing a Wagner Performance intercooler. Its larger, thicker core helps reduce intake temperatures during aggressive driving while we replace the damaged components.

Would you keep the stock turbos, or upgrade them while the car is apart?

Mercedes cylinder wall scoring is a common problem on 2012 to 2016 Mercedes-Benz models equipped with the M278 engine, and it can also affect the M157 engine.

In this video, I show you how to inspect for cylinder wall scoring and explain why every M278 and M157 should have a bore scope inspection before you buy one. It could save you thousands of dollars and help you avoid buying an engine that’s already failing.

Another rusty Mercedes in the shop, but this one isn’t here for a rear subframe or brake lines. This Mercedes came in with a rusty fuel tank that was actually leaking fuel. Most people are surprised to learn that not every Mercedes has a plastic fuel tank. This one is equipped with a PZEV (Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle) system, which uses a metal fuel tank designed to reduce evaporative emissions.

The downside? In areas where road salt is common, these metal tanks can rust from the outside in and eventually start leaking. If you’ve ever wondered why some Mercedes have a metal fuel tank instead of plastic, here’s the answer.

Have you ever seen one of these rust out?

This SLK came in with a check engine light but left with a replacement engine. Early Mercedes M272 engines are well known for balance shaft failures. While the balance shaft can be repaired, the labor often makes it more expensive than installing a good used engine.

For this SLK, we sourced an updated 2007 engine with only 60,000 miles and replaced common failure items while it was out, giving the client a much more reliable Mercedes for years to come.

What would you do? Would you replace the engine or scrap the Mercedes? Let me know in the comments.

Diagnostic fees are something certain people don’t like to pay, especially when they feel like they already know the answer. But a misfire doesn’t automatically mean spark plugs. It could be a coil. But on certain engines, it could also be something much more serious, like cylinder wall scoring, which basically means the engine needs to be replaced.

That’s why a proper diagnosis matters. We’re verifying the failure, checking the system, and making sure your money goes toward the right repair. A proper diagnosis can save you from replacing parts you don’t need and help catch bigger issues before they become a much bigger problem.

Do harness extensions actually help? In my experience, they often create more problems than they solve. I’ve seen them contribute to extended crank times, check engine lights, and even shorting out components.

On many Mercedes engines, especially the M278, oil can travel through the camshaft position sensor wiring and make its way toward the engine control unit. Instead of adding these extensions, I recommend inspecting the camshaft position sensor connectors at every oil change. If there’s oil present, address the issue before it becomes a bigger problem.

Zack’s 3 Year Anniversary!! Thank you so much for the last 3 years. You’ve been with MTech longer than anyone else and have played a huge role in helping build this company into what it is today. Funny enough there was a time when I would answer the phones and everyone would ask for Mike. Now when I answer the phone everyone is asking for Zack. That alone tells you the type of person he is. He has earned the trust and respect of so many clients and I hear nothing but great things from our clients every single day.

I’m incredibly proud of the man you’ve become and the steps you’ve taken in life. Watching your growth over the years has been amazing and you deserve all the success that comes your way. Thank you for being one of the most genuine people I know and showing up for our clients, our team, and this company. Your hard work and dedication do not go unnoticed.

You truly are one of the best parts of 603 MTech Autowerks. Love you brotha ❤️
