As we prepare for The Marina opening May 15th remember with the passing of the Hanson-Milone Act, new requirements are being put in place for boaters to obtain a valid boater’s safety certification before operating on the water. Boaters born after January 1, 1989 must complete a certified boating safety course by April 1, 2026, while those born before January 1, 1989 have until April 1, 2028.
There are also important age guidelines—boaters under 12 must be supervised, those ages 12–15 must complete a safety course to operate independently, and operators ages 16–17 must complete a course to operate personal watercraft.
This new law is designed to improve safety by ensuring every operator understands navigation rules, emergency procedures, and responsible boating practices.
At The Marina at Hingham Harbor, safety has always been a top priority. Our mariners know that being prepared—whether it’s properly securing your vessel, staying aware of your surroundings, or following harbor guidelines—helps protect everyone on the docks and out on the water.
This new requirement is a step toward safer waterways for all of us. Let’s continue to look out for one another and keep Hingham Harbor a safe, enjoyable place to boat. 🌊⚓️
