Congratulations to Chief Chad Fisher on his retirement!

The Hickory Fire Department proudly announces the retirement of Battalion Chief Fisher following nearly three decades of dedicated service to the department and the citizens of Hickory.

Battalion Chief Fisher joined the Hickory Fire Department in November 1997 and has served the community with professionalism, leadership, and commitment throughout his career. During his time with the department, he worked his way through the ranks, including being Deputy Chief of Administration and Operations. He has completed numerous specialized training courses including Emergency Vehicle Driving, Rapid Intervention Teams, Firefighter Safety and Survival, and the Swedish Flashover Simulator.

Chief Fisher holds certifications through the North Carolina Fire and Rescue Commission as a Level II firefighter, Technical Rescuer, Level II Fire Instructor, Hazardous Materials Operations Technician, and Fire and Life Safety Educator Levels I through III. In 2000, he became certified as an Emergency Medical Technician and is also a Nationally Registered EMT.

Committed to professional growth and leadership development, Chief Fisher completed the Fire Officer Level III Program along with Leadership I, II, and III training. He furthered his education by earning his Level 1 Fire Inspector certification and in 2019 graduated from Cleveland Community College with an associate’s degree in Fire Protection Technology and later in 2022 he received his bachelor’s degree from Fayetteville State University in Fire and Emergency Services Administration.

Outside of the fire service Chief Fisher enjoys hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. He is married to his wife, Samantha, and together they have a daughter, Emma. After retirement Chief Fisher says he looks forward to his next chapter in life.

The Hickory Fire Department extends its sincere appreciation to Battalion Chief Fisher for his many years of faithful service and wishes him and his family all the best in retirement.

Jack was a good friend and mentor. Could always count on him when we needed help or something fixed, but will mostly miss the conversations we had when stopping by the shop or running into each other outside of work. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Hoke and Custom Body Works, Inc. Family.

We will miss you Jack!!

Custom Body Works is sad to announce the passing of our owner, Jack Hoke.

Jack enjoyed over 45 years of proudly leading his company to become a trusted and quality collision repair center for the greater Hickory area. Jack made many friends along the way and will be greatly missed by us all.

A service to celebrate Jack’s life will be held at 3:00 pm, Sunday, February 15, 2026, at Bass-Smith Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Deborah Frye officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 – 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Collision Repair Education Foundation at collisionrepaireducationfoundation.org.

We appreciate your thoughts and prayers at this time.

Congratulations on your retirement!! Thank you for your service!!
