Choate's Station

Choate's Station For many years, Choate's Station was the center of the city's business,
with local residents gathering daily to meet and socialize.

In all of my time of working here on the corner, there was nothing like those 16 days of the Deer Tournament....each year there was just so much excitement from those who were participating for prizes, and the local towns people who would stop or ride by to see the tournament board inside and out by the road.....the main goal of all of the hunters was to be one of the three names that were on that outside board, in lights, for everyone to see....this meant they were in the money, and everyone else was looking to knock them off.....you just don't know how many people would ride by daily, stop in the road, and read that sign......it was a lot of fun to have people hanging out during the day and late evening, waiting to see who was going to pull in with a deer.....its now been over 20 years since I last had a Deer Tournament, and it is amazing how many people still talk about it and have good memories of something that happened....those were good days, good times, and the chance to be with a lot of good friends.....

Here is one of the new pictures I just located.....this is James Black and I think he is talking to Slick Parker.....people really enjoyed stopping by to socialize with others....it was a great place to just catch up on what was going on....a lot of relationships and friendships were established among the locals by stopping by for a Coca-Cola and chance to sit on the bench......

Here are two more photos that have never been posted to this site....I was glad to run across them to share with the group....this is the tournament champion deer taken by Jay Weatherspoon in my second deer tournament at The Station......I will never forget Jay coming in the door to say he had a deer....when we went outside, his truck was rolling backwards from the parking lot over into Rex Coffey's yard.....we all got a big laugh as Jay was running to catch his truck.......

People ask me all the time to put photos on this page.....I wish I had taken three times as many as I did.....I always had my camera with me, but that is water under the bridge now.....I am glad to say that this past week I found about 30 pictures from The Station that I have never posted before.....some may be similar to previous posts, but there are first timers......it was fun for me to see them also.....I guess I will start with me and Larry Harper, and Scott photo bombing, with a deer that was the winner of one of the Deer Tournaments.......
