SUBARU IMPREZA STI 2005

The 2005 WRX STi uses a front-engine, full-time four-wheel drive system. A single transmission, a six-speed manual unit, is available for the STi, leaving out the five-speed manual and four-speed automatic found in lesser Imprezas. Limited-slip differentials are located front and rear, with a torque bias balancing 35 percent in the front and 65 percent in the rear. A controller-controllable system can send more power to the front or rear as needed, with an electronically controlled auto mode available as well. Power is not only front to rear split but side to side, aided by individual differences. In terms of suspension setup, the STi features adjustable strut-type units front and rear with stabilizer bars. Brembo brakes are standard, with four-piston calipers and 12.7-inch ventilated discs at the front, and two-piston calipers with 12.3-inch ventilated discs at the rear.

SUBARU IMPREZA STI 2013

The 2013 Subaru WRX STI houses essentially the same engine as the WRX, a turbocharged 2.5L 4-cylinder with high-capacity intercooler. This set-up pushes the STI's output to 305 horsepower (as opposed to the WRX's 265) and 290 lb-ft of torque.

SI-DRIVE (SUBARU Intelligent Drive), that enables the drivers to choose three different engine mappings, is standard.
Paddle shift is featured to allow manual shifting without requiring the driver to release the steering wheel.
Downshifting Blipping Control system was adopted. When down-shifting, the automatic transmission control unit interacts with the engine management system and increases engine revolutions instantly and to the exact required setting.
Changing gears with the paddle shift can also be done by a temporary operation that does not require the selection lever to be set to the manual position.
VTD (Variable Torque Distribution)-AWD system was adopted to provide excellent stability of the vehicle, which controls the torque distribution ratio between the front and rear axles depending on driving conditions.
17-inches ventilated dual piston disk brakes for the front, and 16-inches ventilated disk brakes for the rear were fitted.
VDC (Vehicle Dynamics Control) System is standard.
