May 8, 1981: TX, OK KS AL. Dallas and the surrounding areas were hit by a thunderstorm with grapefruit-sized hailstones and wind up to 100 mph. In 2019 dollars, NOAA estimates this storm cost around $1.2 billion in damage.

October 5th, 2010: To date, Phoenix, AZ experienced the single most damaging hailstorm in U.S history on this day in October with damages to homes and cars costing $3.2 billion! On top of the damaging hail, this severe storm included tornadoes, thunderstorms and very high winds.

What had looked like an overdue, relatively quiet year for U.S. hail damage is falling into line with the last decade of unprecedented losses, said experts at a hail workshop.
