🚧 TRAFFIC ADVISORY | JEFFERSON COUNTY 🚧

Overnight closures on the John F. Kennedy Memorial Bridge have been postponed as crews take additional measurements needed for the next phase of the expansion joint replacement project.

Drivers should also plan for a few short-term I-65 ramp closures next week for striping work tied to the recent high-friction surface treatment project.

🚧I-65 South → I-71 North ramp will be closed Sunday, Nov. 23 (9 a.m. – 5 p.m.)

🚧 I-65 South → Jefferson St./Downtown ramp will be closed Monday, Nov. 24 (9 a.m. – 4 p.m.)

The right three lanes of the Kennedy Bridge and the I-65 South → I-64 West ramp remain closed as ongoing joint replacement continues.

ORIGINAL PRESS RELEASE:

TRAFFIC ADVISORY | Overnight Closures of the John F. Kennedy Memorial Bridge in Louisville Scheduled for Nov. 14, Nov. 21, and Dec. 5

Overnight Kennedy Bridge Closures:
🚧Beginning at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, through 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15.
🚧Beginning at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, through 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22.
🚧Beginning at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, through 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6.

Contractors have scheduled the next three overnight closures of Interstate 65 South on the John F. Kennedy Memorial Bridge in Louisville as work advances on a bridge expansion joint replacement project to maintain and preserve the important Ohio River crossing.

All lanes of I-65 South will be closed, just past Exit 1, to U.S. 31 South/Stansifer Avenue/10th Street in Jeffersonville, Indiana, on the specified dates and times. Motorists should plan to detour by taking I-265 West to I-64 East to reconnect with I-65 South.

Up to four additional overnight closures of the bridge are anticipated as work progresses. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will share specific dates and times once they are scheduled.

The upcoming overnight closures are necessary to prevent any bridge movement while contract crews perform steel repairs underneath the roadway. This work involves precision machining, known as line boring, and the bridge must remain free of traffic to ensure the accuracy and alignment of the repairs.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has also coordinated this work with other Louisville-area projects to minimize traffic impacts as much as possible. No overnight closures are scheduled the week of Thanksgiving.
