The Story of David Sr.

David had to grow up fast.
At just 12 years old, he began working at a small neighborhood repair shop. Life had placed him in difficult circumstances—especially for a child—but he pushed forward with determination. While going to school and practicing Tae Kwon Do, he worked as an apprentice. His first paycheck? Just 25 centavos. When he asked for a raise, they gave him 5 cents more.

But David had a bigger dream: to become an automotive engineer. He enrolled in one of the top mechanical schools and later moved on to a specialized transmission shop. His job was simply to remove and install transmissions—but what he really wanted was to rebuild them.

That job was highly paid and reserved for the owner’s sons. Still, David—humble and determined—offered to help one of them who didn’t enjoy the work but liked the credit. Quietly, David became the “ghost” technician, secretly rebuilding transmissions for just 25 cents each while others took the praise. But David didn’t mind—he just wanted to learn.

That’s how it all began.

Today, the same spirit of sacrifice, passion, and perseverance lives on in Zoom Auto Transmission, the family business he built from the ground up. For over 25 years, Zoom has proudly served the Bay Area from the same location—committed to honest work and helping customers get back on the road.
