Today is a very humbling day for me, as well as a day of much reflection. Today is my 30th anniversary as the owner and operator of Auto Tech. Some of the folks I used to work with hoped I would fail when I made the announcement. April Fools' on you guys, LOL! When I made the decision, my biggest supporter and encourager was my dad. Three days ago was the 19th anniversary of his passing, and I miss him as much today as I ever have. What I would not give to be able to have lunch with him today and celebrate this occasion. I remember when I told him I was leaving a steady job and striking out on my own. I expected to hear him say I should not make the risky move and keep the job security I had, but he did not. Instead, he encouraged me, telling me he had faith in me and knew I was good at what I do, so he knew I would make it work. He also assured me that on the chance I could not make a go of it, I would not have any trouble finding another job. While he provided no financial support—not because he wouldn’t give it, but because I would not take it—he helped me daily with good advice, materials for benches, free labor, and the use of his A-frame and engine hoist, etc., etc., etc. When I decided to stop renting and bought the building I am currently in, he—along with many good friends—was here every evening to help me remodel and eventually move in. On March 22, 2004, Mike came to work here. For 22 years, he has been a valued asset, providing knowledge that takes years to obtain and expert work for both me and all of you. Yes, it’s very humbling to me when I think about all the people who have and continue to put their trust and faith in us for their vehicle repair needs. So many people not only utilize our services but also recommend us to your friends and family. Yes, you are customers, and I can’t thank you all enough for your loyalty—but more importantly, you have become friends and I deeply value that friendship.
