If you haven’t shopped for a car in a few years, your budget got a lot smaller without you noticing. 📉 A new study looked at over 11 million used cars sold in 2019 and 2026, and here’s what it found: a three-year-old used car cost about $23,624 back in 2019. Today that same three-year-old car averages $32,651. That’s roughly $9,000 more, or a 38% jump. But the number that really hits is this one — in 2019, almost half of all three-year-old cars were under $20,000. Now only about one in nine is. So if $20,000 is your budget, you’re no longer shopping three-year-old cars. You’re shopping seven-year-old cars. And it’s not the fancy stuff driving this. A three-year-old Hyundai Elantra now averages $19,178, up 56%. A Camry is $24,829. A Civic is $23,771. Those are the “cheap” cars. Which means two things for you right now. One, the price gap between a basic economy car and a nicer used car is way smaller than it used to be, so check both before you decide. And two, if you already own one of these, your trade-in is worth more than you think it is. 🔑 Come find out what your number actually gets you.
