🚗 Do You REALLY Know What Your Car Insurance Covers?
Most people don’t think about their auto insurance policy until AFTER an accident. That’s when knowing what you actually purchased can make a huge difference.
Your insurance policy isn’t just a monthly bill — it’s a contract that determines what protection you have when something goes wrong.
Here are a few things every driver should know:
🔹 Liability Coverage
If you’re responsible for an accident, liability coverage helps pay for injuries or property damage you cause to others — up to your policy limits.
🔹 Collision Coverage
Helps pay to repair or replace your vehicle when it’s damaged in a covered collision, subject to your deductible.
🔹 Comprehensive Coverage
Helps protect your vehicle from things like theft, hail, falling objects, vandalism, and certain other non-collision losses.
🔹 Your Deductible Matters
A $500 deductible and a $1,500 deductible can make a BIG difference when you have a claim. Make sure you know what you’ll be responsible for paying out of pocket.
🔹 Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage
What happens if the person who hits you doesn’t have enough insurance — or any insurance at all? This coverage may help protect you, depending on your policy and state.
🔹 Rental & Roadside Coverage
These are often optional coverages. Don’t assume you automatically have a rental car or roadside assistance after an accident.
⚠️ And here’s the important part:
Having “full coverage” doesn’t necessarily mean you have every coverage you need. There are limits, deductibles, exclusions, and optional coverages that can significantly affect what happens after a claim.
The best time to understand your policy is BEFORE the accident — not after.
Take a few minutes today to look at your declarations page and ask:
👉 What are my liability limits?
👉 What are my deductibles?
👉 Do I have collision and comprehensive coverage?
👉 Do I have uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage?
👉 Do I have rental reimbursement?
👉 What would I actually have to pay out of pocket after an accident?
If you’re not sure what you’re paying for, ask your insurance professional to explain it. You deserve to understand the protection you’re purchasing.
