When it comes to refrigerated trailers, roof foam is critical but often overlooked. A small tear in the aluminum roof might seem like a quick fix with a monobolt/sealed patch and caulking. While this tried-and-true method works initially, the seal can fade within 1-2 years, leaving no clear sign of failure. The result? Saturated, heavy foam that risks collapsing the roof—leading to costly and dangerous damage.
At Sumrall's, we advise replacing the entire roof rather than patching sections. Case in point: we’re currently replacing all foam and roof bows on a trailer due to a leaking, saturated roof. This expensive repair could likely have been avoided with a full roof replacement.
