It has begun! Season of the "Wannabe DIY Askholes!"
So last week, dude comes in claiming he needs valve stems for his wheels. 2007 Dyna. I asked if they were stock spoke wheels. He said they were. I asked him why he thought he needed valve stems. He said because he bought new tires for it and they're "tubeless." He said someone had incorrectly installed tubes and he was going to put them right with the new tires. So the education ensued because he clearly has no friggin' clue. I sold him the correct tube for the rear but didn't have his front in stock. He wanted to mount the tires and install the tubes himself so I gave him some pointers on how to do it.
Fast forward to today: Dude comes back and informs me that the tube is too large for his rear tire. I ask him why he believes that. He said because he had trouble installing it so he looked online and some website told him it was incorrect. It wasn't. Regardless, the tube didn't appear to be damaged so I took it back and refunded his money. So after he's got his cash back in hand, he says, "I've got a question for you." He said, "Funny thing happened. I took the wheels to the dealer to get them mounted and ended up buying a 2019 FLHX. Is there anything I need to know about or look for on that bike." So you see, he had fabricated the story about the tube not being correct, but he suspected I would not refund his money just because he traded his bike in and no longer needed it. Anywho, back to the question about the FLHX. I told him the oil pump should be changed if it has the old pump in it. He said, "Oh, is that something that should be done right away or will it wait? It's only got 8,000 miles on it." I responded that it should be done right away if it's got the older pump. So he asks, "Is that something I can do or should I bring it to you?" WAIT FOR IT... I said to him, "I thought you could install a tube but you couldn't. What makes you think you can tear the cam chest apart?" I saw the light leave his eyes! Folks, if you're as stupid as this guy was, mine is the wrong shop to call or visit. If you want to try DIY, then DIY for Fu@k sake!
