Beginning at midnight on May 5, Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Texas Highway Patrol Troopers will be out across the state for a one-day increased enforcement period for Cinco de Mayo. Troopers will be watching for impaired driving, distracted driving and other dangerous behaviors – working to keep our roads safe.

A potentially dangerous new scam has been reported across the State of Texas — and it looks just like an official court document.

Drivers are receiving fake “Final Enforcement Notices” claiming they owe money for tolls, speeding tickets, or parking violations. The notices appear to come from Harris County courts and even include a Texas state seal, case number, and legal language.

But here’s the truth: IT’S A SCAM.

These fake notices are designed to scare you into paying immediately by:
• Threatening license suspension
• Claiming “ENFORCEMENT ACTIVE” status
• Demanding urgent payment
• Including a QR code to “pay now”

BIG RED FLAG: Real Texas courts do NOT ask for payment through QR codes, texts, or random notices like this.

If you scan that code or click the link, scammers can steal your money and personal information within seconds.

WHAT TO DO:
• Do NOT scan the QR code
• Do NOT click any links
• Do NOT send payment
• Verify directly with the court or toll agency

Officials say these scams are spreading fast — and many Texans are being targeted.
