Holiday Travel Vehicle Check List

The holiday season is a time for reconnecting with loved ones and making cherished memories. Often visiting our loved ones requires some travel and Integra Auto Repair wants you to arrive safe. Before you embark on a holiday trip take the time to check and make sure all is well with your car. If you do not have the time or knowledge to perform these safety checks stop by Integra Auto Repair. Make sure you have your vehicle serviced before those trips because people are counting on you to arrive safely.

For instance, if you're towing a heavy trailer with an automobile with an automatic transmission it's worth having the transmission fluid checked and if needed changed.

Traveling in bad weather can put an extra strain on your coolant system. Have the radiator hoses checked for leakage and have them replaced if they show cracks or signs of a leak. This repair will need to be done eventually once the hoses show signs of wear, but it is up to you whether it leaves you and your family stranded.

Check engine drive belts for condition and tension. If they appear worn or damaged have them replaced, if they appear loose have them checked and adjusted.

Check the inflation pressures and reset them to the recommended pressures, which might mean setting them higher if you're loaded up with holiday gear or towing a trailer.

If you're towing a trailer check to make sure the lights are working correctly, and if your trailer has brakes make sure they have plenty of stopping power for the mountain passes.

A trouble free vehicle that gets you there safe is one less thing you need to worry about this holiday season.

Safe Travels,

There's not much residents can do about the price of gas in Colorado. However, we can control - up to a point - how much fuel we use. Our driving habits can dramatically affect our fuel economy, and with upcoming holiday trips conserving some gas can put some cash back in your pocket.

The first thing we can do is watch the gas pedal. Hard acceleration just sucks the gas, and is bad for fuel economy. Gently leave stop lights and plan lane changes so you don't need to floor it. That can save you hundreds of dollars a year in improved fuel economy.

Go a little slower on roads. residents who go more than 60 mph/100 kph will see their fuel economy drop dramatically. A great way to avoid hammering down on the gas pedal is to leave early so you don't need to rush to be on time. Cruise control is your friend – steady speeds use less gas.

Plan errands ahead. Make fewer trips by combining errands around town.

Hey, at current gas prices, a lead-foot might as well be a gold foot.

Give us a call.

Do you need new Winter tires, but are not sure which Winter tires are right for your vehicle? Read below for information on selecting Winter tires.

When selecting new tires you should consider three factors:

1. Tire Function
2. Tire Fit
3. Tire Value

Function:

What are your needs are for new tires: weather conditions, terrain, temperatures, etc.

Most new family vehicles are equipped with all-season tires. These tires can be used all year long and perform well in most road conditions. However, these tires are not ideal at the temperature extremes you might experience in Colorado.

Winter tires have a more aggressive tread for handling snow and ice on mountain roads. Plus, have a rubber compound that enables better traction when temperatures drop below 45 degrees Fahrenheit/7.2 degrees Centigrade. For Winter weather in Colorado, you'll definitely experience better stopping and road-holding performance with Winter tires on your vehicles than all-season tires.

If you drive off-road in Eagle County, Colorado, there is a wide spectrum of tires from all-terrain (a good mix of highway and off-road capability) to dedicated off-road tires.

The key to selecting the right Winter tire is discussing function with your Integra Auto Repair tire professional to get the type, load rating, speed rating and wear rating for the tire you need.

Fit:

The easiest thing is to purchase tires in the same size that were installed by the manufacturer. If you want a different size wheel or Winter tire profile, be sure to work with your service adviser to make sure your new wheels and tires fit properly and do not rub during bumps or turns.

It's also important to make sure that important safety systems like anti-lock brakes, stability control and traction control aren't adversely affected by the new tire size (the computer may need to be re-calibrated to make necessary adjustments).

Value:

Note, I did not say price. The tire that meets all your needs AND has the warranty and tread life you expect will not be the least expensive option – but it may well return the best value for your tire dollar.

If you have any more questions about tires for Colorado's Winter weather conditions please give Integra Auto Repair a call we would be happy to answer your questions.
