History- What Jacob Miller started selling fire insurance to the few local residents in 1881 he couldn’t have known where it would lead - but he might have guessed. That’s because he was a man of incredible vision when he became Northwestern Indiana’s first insurance agent. Later, when his son-in-law George P. Spitz, joined him in the business we received the name we bear today, Spitz & Miller Insurance Agency. Later we grew through the additions of other family members. From those years to the present fourth generation we’ve grown because we’ve never lost sight of Jacob’s purpose- To be of service to our neighbors when they need us.
