A quick walk-around before you hit the road can catch a lot, if you actually look.

Check tire pressure and condition. Look for uneven wear, cuts, bulges and anything that doesn’t belong. Pay attention to what’s happening around the wheel ends, too.

Heavy loads, hot pavement and long days don’t tend to make small tire problems better.

The morning drive looks a little different again.

School buses are making their stops, parents are back in the drop-off line, young drivers are heading to school, and commercial traffic is still doing what it does every day.

For those of us driving bigger equipment, a little extra distance and patience can make a big difference.

Watch for stopped buses, leave yourself room, and give everybody a chance to get where they’re going safely.

When the crop is ready, the truck needs to be ready too.

Harvest hauling means long days, heavy loads and a lot of miles packed into a short window. A truck that’s been “good enough” all summer can find its weak spot pretty quickly once the work starts.

If you’ve got a grain truck, semi or trailer that needs attention before harvest gets into full swing, get it on the schedule now.

It’s a lot easier to fix it in the shop than when there’s grain waiting in the field.
