Getting pulled over by law enforcement can be nerve-racking, but knowing how to respond can make the experience safer for both you and the officer.

🚗 Here are 5 important tips to remember:

✅ Find a safe location – Signal and pull over to the right as soon as it’s safe to do so.

✅ Come to a complete stop – Put your vehicle in park and remain inside unless instructed otherwise.

✅ Use your hazard lights – Especially if you need to travel a short distance to reach a safe stopping location.

✅ Keep your hands visible – Place your hands on the steering wheel and avoid sudden movements.

✅ Follow instructions – Stay calm, communicate clearly, and let the officer know before reaching for documents.

💡 REMEMBER: Safety doesn’t stop when you pull over. Being prepared, staying alert, and knowing what to do can make all the difference!

You can't control the driver next to you. You can control how much time you leave yourself to react.

That's defensive driving in one sentence. Here's how we teach it:

✅ Three seconds back. Pick a fixed object ahead. If you reach it before you finish counting to three, you're too close. Double it in rain.

✅ Scan your mirrors. Every five to eight seconds, so nothing appears out of nowhere.

✅ Clear blind spots. Mirror, shoulder, then move. In that order, every time.

✅ Plan an exit. Never sit boxed in on all four sides. Always know where you'd go if you had to move fast.

None of these require quick reflexes. They require space and attention, and both are decisions you make before anything goes wrong.
