More fun with discontinued and unavailable parts! Had to purchase a used tank for a fella with an old Arctic Cat. Apparently didn't flush the tank thoroughly enough. Got it running but it kept falling on it's face when I gave it throttle. Thought it may be the ECM but it wasn't. It was what is pictured below. This small amount of crud will reek havok in a carburator. Again, if you purchase used parts because you absolutely have to in order to keep your old machines running, be prepared to repair said parts you order.

Oh the peril of buying used parts online. Back story: Purchased a complete engine from ebay because a vandal fill this old engine with water. The crankshaft was seized and the piston was rusted to the cylinder. The listing said it had good compression. Well it had 62psi. The spec is 180 to 185 psi. Not good. Piston rings are siezed in the ring lands. Luckilly I found a new piston at a dealership in Texas. The new rings and all related parts were sourced on ebay as this 1983 Honda doesn't have parts available anymore. The seller worked with me and gave me a partial refund to pay for new parts. Moral of the story, be ready to repair used parts purchased online.

Well the replacement engine showed up. There's good compression and it rolls nicely. Now on to swapping the flywheel, stator, sprocket, cutting new gaskets for the reed cage, intake, and clutch cover as they are discontinued. The only clutch cover gaskets I found were all in Germany. $15 for the gasket and $90 for shipping. Yeah.... no thanks.
