The filter in this photo collapsed because the oil became so dirty and clogged that it restricted flow and created extra pressure inside the system. A tire can still have tread left and still be unsafe. In the graphics below, you'll see the difference between a worn tire and an unsafe tire. Uneven wear, dry rot, cracking, and aging rubber are all issues that can affect safety and performance, even when tires don’t look completely worn out at first glance.

With June being National Tire Safety Month, let this be a good reminder that tire safety is about more than tread depth. Many warning signs develop gradually and are easy to miss without a proper inspection.
