This one started with a whining noise when the clutch was engaged, but the test drive told us there was more going on.
While driving with the customer, the clutch wasn’t fully disengaging and the transmission wouldn’t release properly for a shift. Pumping the clutch pedal temporarily allowed it to disengage, which pointed us toward a problem in the clutch hydraulic/release system.
Once we had it on the hoist, we found more evidence. The inside of the clutch housing was wet and greasy, indicating a seal is leaking and contaminating components inside. The clutch was also engaging very close to the top of the pedal travel, another sign of clutch disc wear. We also found an active, heavy leak at the rear pinion seal.
Put all of those findings together with the whining noise, and we had a much clearer picture of what was happening.
This is why diagnosis matters. One noise can be the beginning of the story, but we want the evidence before we make a repair plan.
