License Plate Visibility Reminder

As we get ready for the start of the semester, please make sure your vehicle’s state-issued license plate is visible from the drive lane when parked on campus.

If your vehicle has a front license plate, please park so either the front or rear plate is visible from the drive lane.

If your vehicle does not have a front plate, the rear of the vehicle must face the drive lane so the rear plate can be clearly seen.

Some drivers choose to display their state-issued plate in the front windshield. This is acceptable for parking purposes as long as the plate remains clearly visible.

Keep winter weather in mind! If you display your plate in the windshield and frost, ice, or snow prevents Parking Enforcement Officers from seeing it, you may receive a Failure to Comply citation.

Before leaving your vehicle, take a quick look and make sure your plate can be easily seen from the drive lane. This helps our officers verify your vehicle and permit quickly and accurately.

Thank you for helping us keep parking enforcement consistent across campus!

UND Move-In Weekend Parking Information

We’ve been seeing some questions about parking for Move-In Weekend, so we wanted to share some helpful information before you arrive on campus!

Housing is sending maps to student emails showing the recommended move-in routes. There is quite a bit of road construction throughout Grand Forks, so scan the QR code for the residence hall your student is moving into and follow the designated route. These routes are designed to help you avoid construction and have a smoother move-in experience. We have included the QR codes here for you.

Parking Services staff and many other volunteers will be out on campus throughout Saturday, August 22nd of Move-In Weekend. We are all here to help make this a great experience!

🚗 Move-In Trailer and Large Vehicle Parking
If you are bringing a trailer or large vehicle, follow the designated route to your drop-off area. After unloading, please move your vehicle and trailer to one of these locations:
• Chester Fritz Performing Arts Center lot
• Princeton N Lot
• Ralph Engelstad Arena (REA) lot

All Other Vehicles:
Follow the designated move-in route to the parking area.

📦 Picking Up Shipped Items at Wilkerson
If you shipped items to campus, they will be picked up at Wilkerson Commons.

The Wilkerson lot will be blocked off once it reaches capacity, and vehicles will be allowed in as spaces become available. You may also park in the Chester Fritz Performing Arts Center lot while picking up your items.

If you are going to Wilkerson to use the dining hall, please park in the Chester Fritz lot. This will help keep the Wilkerson lot available for families picking up packages.

🅿️ Parking Enforcement During Move-In
There will be no parking enforcement during Move-In Weekend to help make the move-in process easier.

Students must have their vehicles parked in the correct lot or zone for their UND parking permit by Monday morning at 7:00 a.m.
Before then, please double-check the UND Parking Portal to make sure:
• Vehicle information is correct.
• License plate is entered correctly.
• If your vehicle does not have a license plate, the last 8 digits of the VIN are entered.

🏠 Moving In Early — August 14–21
To help students who are moving in early, there will be no enforcement in Housing lots after 1:00 p.m. from August 14–21.
There is also no weekend parking enforcement until after classes begin, which will help provide additional flexibility during move-in.

If you have any questions that we have not covered please feel free to email [email protected] or call our office 701-777-3551.

Safe travels, and welcome to UND! We look forward to seeing you on campus!

07/16/2026

Parking permit sales for the 2026–27 academic year are coming up at UND.

Residence hall parking permits will be available beginning Monday, July 20 at 9 a.m.
Commuter student parking permits will be available beginning Wednesday, July 22 at 9 a.m.

Permits are sold on a first-come, first-served basis, and availability may vary based on demand. If your student plans to bring a vehicle to campus, now is a great time to review permit options, rates, parking locations, and transportation alternatives before sales begin. Students who need overnight parking, including those living in Greek housing or near campus, should review the Overnight 24/7 permit options.

Before permit sales open, students should log in to the UND Parking Portal to make sure they can access their account. Students must be registered for classes before they can access the portal. They can also add vehicle information ahead of time and become familiar with the portal, which can make the permit purchase process easier on the day sales begin.

Students may charge their parking permit to their student account through September 3, 2026. Employees may choose to pay for permits in full or through payroll installments each paycheck.

For full details, including permit options, sale dates, rates, and parking information, visit the UND Parking Services permit page: https://campus.und.edu/transportation/parking/permits.html

If your student is unable to access the parking portal, does not see the expected permit options, or has questions, UND Parking Services is happy to help at [email protected] or 701-777-3551.

All vehicles and motorcycles that park on campus must have a permit and be registered with UND Parking Services.

UND Parking Services and other UND offices will be closed on Friday, July 3, in observance of the Independence Day holiday.

During the holiday, most parking enforcement will be suspended. However, University Police will remain on duty and may issue citations for safety-related violations, such as parking in fire lanes, no parking zones, or other hazardous areas.

Please enjoy Open Parking during the closure, and as always, park safely and be mindful of posted safety restrictions.

If you have any questions, we're happy to help! Reach out to us at [email protected] or 701-777-3551.

Have a safe, fun, and Happy 4th of July!
