The last Rise changed the shape of Ashriya forever.
An event that is already being referred to as “The Sundering” by scholars was a cataclysm on par with The Breaking. Radiating out from the Dead Zone, massive fissures split the land, creating giant storms, tidal waves, and earthquakes felt even by those far from its epicenter. Whispers from the Codex speak of it being a machination of “The Scholar Beyond”, an entity only alluded to in textbooks.
Many nations suffered, frequently more due to the ramifications of the changes in geography than from the event itself. The worst overall damage was suffered by large swaths of Glibben territory, both in Southglen and the Greenwood Forest. Due to their proximity to the epicenter of the Sundering, it appears that buildings within the city-states of Krasslig and Sharolia received the most physical destruction from the earthquakes.
In the aftermath of these events, cartographers have worked without rest to chart the transformed face of Ashriya, with new lands rising from former seas as the waters receded to fill the vast chasms left by The Sundering.
As for those in Crossroads, you saw nothing of the event - only its result. When the Rise began, you were all suddenly shifted away with all the citizens in Low Town and White Flower. You arrived in what could only be described as…empty. A void. A place of nothing. Many of you spent your time comforting the people of Low Town, others debating what had happened. You collectively surmised that this must have been a ritual, and someone cast it to bring you here. Some recall meeting a tall stranger in the void - a Lyche, who none had met before based on his description.
As suddenly as you were whisked away, you arrived back in Crossroads. Some of the buildings seemed damaged, but nothing that would take a great effort to repair. A few people who arrived in Crossroads during the Rise said that the town was empty when they arrived. They spoke of a bright light which pulsed across the night sky coming from the south, followed by an earthquake and a torrential storm. They explained that they took refuge in the Dragon’s Claw, and that you all suddenly appeared after the storm had subsided on the last day of the Rise.
The Codex plans to discuss the events and aftermath of the Sundering at a summit in the Winter to be held in Keepton.
OOG :
As a staff we decided to capitalize on the unfortunate situation of not having our last event of the year. We had story to progress and changes we wanted to make, and we wanted to open up the world to significant change to facilitate those things as well as tell you all new stories.
That being said, know that you don’t have to spend time in your timeblocks entries fixing anything, unless that’s in alignment with your specific character goals. The Greenwood Republic emerged from this relatively unscathed.
Timeblocks will be six months at $10 a month, with a free month for anyone who preregistered or prepaid for the event. The deadline for timeblocks is December 23rd. If you wish to attend the Codex’s summit, you need only spend 1 day in Keepton.
We understand that this may be a sudden and significant change, but please understand that we are using this time to revisit some of the rules as well. We will announce those changes next year well before event in case those changes make you want to change your builds. We want to provide the best game we can with exciting and dynamic storytelling. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to staff. See you in the Spring!
