Nobody else in 1972 thought a V12 belonged in a family saloon.

Twelve cylinders, smooth enough that owners swore the engine had switched off at idle. Jaguar spent years developing it, first testing in race cars before putting it into something you could drive to the office. Most manufacturers needed a straight six or a V8 to get anywhere near that kind of refinement. Jaguar just built more cylinders instead.

It's the reason the XJ12 still gets mentioned in the same breath as cars twice its price.
What's the biggest surprise about owning one, the smoothness, the sound, or something else entirely?

Ask most people what wheels an E-Type came with, and they'll say wires without hesitation. It's practically part of the silhouette in their imagination.

But wire wheels were never standard. They were a cost option, and a meaningful one. Many first owners, especially in America, opted for the standard steel disc wheels instead and pocketed the difference.

It's a detail restorers argue over more than most people realize. Do you build to the factory spec sheet, or to the era's aesthetic ideal, the one most enthusiasts now assume was always there? Neither answer is wrong. Both are a form of honesty about what the car actually was.

It's a small reminder that originality is rarely as simple as it looks from a distance.

Do you have wire or steel wheels on yours, and why?

The Jaguar name goes back to 1935, when an employee named Bill Rankin handed Sir William Lyons a list of animal and bird names and Lyons picked Jaguar because, as he put it, it had an exciting sound.

Ninety years later that instinct still holds up: low, quiet, and quick when it needs to be. Whatever's parked in your garage, from an E-Type to a late XJ, it's carrying that same idea forward.

Happy International Cat Day to the marque that's spent nearly a century living up to its own name.

The XK150 wasn't built to sit in a garage.

Jaguar widened the body about 4 inches and made disc brakes standard, built for owners who drove harder, faster, and further. It wasn't nostalgia. It was the XK formula, updated for modern roads.
Collectors know it's not just a car. It's poise, pace, and precision that rewards every mile behind the wheel.

Where would you take yours today?

Some Jaguar colours are remembered less for their beauty than for their rarity, and the two aren't always related.

Shades like Opalescent Bronze or Sherwood Green appeared on factory colour charts and then largely vanished from period photographs. Not because they looked wrong on the car, but because most buyers, given a choice, tended to play it safe. British Racing Green and black sold in volume. The unusual colours sold in the single digits.

That caution is exactly why those cars stand out today. A rare original colour, especially if it's stayed with the car through its life, tells a more specific story than a repaint ever could. It says something about the one buyer, decades ago, who wanted something the showroom floor didn't usually offer.

Restorers debate whether to preserve an unusual original colour or return a repainted car to something more common. There's no wrong answer, only a question of which story you want the car to tell.

Do you know the original colour your Jaguar left the factory wearing?

Parking a Jaguar shouldn't feel like a workout.

Steering that's reassuring at 60 mph can turn into a wrestling match at 5 mph. That's why electric power steering has become such a popular upgrade.

It doesn't change how your car drives; it just takes the sting out of parking and low-speed manoeuvring. The system tucks discreetly into the steering column, so the look stays original... and the upgrade can be reversed if you ever want to go back to stock.

It's not about making your classic feel modern—it's about making it easier to drive more often.
